| I do love virtualbox... Especially in Seamless Mode! Kubuntu and Windows XP at the same time. |

| I love it to. I finally got it to work to run Windows from Linux using my existing XP partition... making VBox and Dual-Booting both options with only one install of Windows.

| How easy/expensive would that be to set up and what are the system requirements? I'm flipping sick of Windows, and I cant afford a Mac

| Umm.. free?
Quite easy.
If you want to just use Linux, try K/X/Ubuntu
I'm not quite sure what you're asking though. |

I'm not quite sure what you're asking though. | I mean like how would I go about getting the OS on my computer and how good would my computer have to be for it to work? Does it matter what version of Windows I am using? Also will all my Windows programs still function?

| Windows programs, probably not, unless they work under WINE. But then you could dual boot.
What are the specs of your current machine? |

What are the specs of your current machine? | I'm not exactly sure.
I have about 45 gigs free on my hard drive
512 megabites of ram (GRRR)
It was a used compy I bought from Oakland University for 100$ so... it's not great.

| Just to be clear, scared2mosh do you want to set up like Cam where you have both running at once, or just so you can access Windows once and a while from VirtualBox? As Cam said you can PM him, but starting a new thread might be a better idea (or a mod splitting it?) so others who are interested can see how its done.
Cam - I've never used seamless mode before. Are you running Ubuntu in VBox from Windows, or is it the other way around? Are you able to keep it in seamless mode most of the time or would that be really impractical due to excessive memory/processor usage from two OSs?

| Kubuntu is the guest. XP is the host. Memory/CPU usage is the same as it would be normally, from what I can tell. I imagine you could do it in your case having XP as the guest OS.
EDIT: Oh, and you have to have Guest Additions installed, which I assume you do if you're running a supported OS.
I don't keep it in seamless mode often, because I like tweaking KDE a lot, and most of the time I really only need one OS or the other, so I'll fullscreen Kubuntu when I need it. Occaisionally, I'd like to keep tabs on an update or software install, and want to use XP, so I'll put it in seamless.
Seamless does disable the guest's wallpaper and any desktop icons. |
