Hunting and Trapping are awsome! My family and I have operated a line in Northern Sask. for the last 8 years.... 2 weeks ago we got our best run yet, 1 lynx and 6 marten... So, I'm definately in favour of seeing some posts one people's trapping and hunting experiences!

I haven't done a ton of trapping in my life, just mainly squirrels, moles, gophers, etc. I did trap a coyote once though, gave it to my uncle to skin out so he could sell it and keep the money. Trapping can be just as quick a kill as hunting (depending on the animal), so I certainly support those who do it. It's an art, a hobby of kinds, because it doesn't really keep a person alive anymore.

However, I do hunt quite a bit. I have hunted deer, bear, wild pigs, game birds and all sorts of little varmints, but I do say that bear was my favorite. I almost always hunt for meat, although I will hold out for a bigger buck if I have the time to do so. Of course we always use the meat, so regardless of how big the deer is it's always edible.

The only bear I shot was more of a "game" animal for myself, although I shot it on our friends land where it had been getting close to their sheep pen. We probably could have eaten the meat (I know it's edible, but the taste depends on what the animal was eating in the first place) but we ended up throwing it out. However, I hunt bear because it's another excuse to get out and enjoy God's beautiful creation and it helps me to relax.

I've never been hunting before...I don't feel like I could shoot and animal and sleep right. Do you get used to it?

I concur with most here, that hunting is fine and trapping is cruel. My FILaw hunts a couple times a year and gives food away to people who need it, as well as feeds his own household year-long. I don't think they ever pay for meat in that house.

Trapping makes me question someone's sanity. Unless we've suddenly developed a less cruel way to do it?
