| Saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good, despite the end of the second act feeling like more of a climax than the last fight.
Here's the thing about the violence in the movie revolving around hit girl; they make a point to discuss the fact that an eleven year old girl should not be slaughtering people. In fact to me, the scenes of her killing were a double edged sword; I was glad that she was taking out the bad guys, but also kind of sad that an eleven year old girl was doing it. I guess it's however you take it.
Like Skeeter said, most of the violence in the movie is cartoony and ridiculous. However, there are scenes in which the violence is more real and tough to watch. One scene in particular was incredibly sad to me.
I've never read the comic book that the movie is based on, so I have no idea what the author is going for here, but for me the movie both criticized and glorified our love of violence in movies. |

| It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Say what you will, but that movie is by far my favorite that I've seen in FOREVER.

| I had really wanted to watch this, but i've been a little convicted about the content of movies lately, and Jeffrey brought up some good points. I just don't see Jesus next to me in the theatres watching this. Whatever, I might, I might not, still looks really funny though.

Also, I don't necessarily feel a need to worry about societies perspective and or acceptance of violence. I worry about my own. |

I enjoyed this movie. It was about as awesome as a movie called "Kick-Ass" should be. Quote:

However, our post-movie car ride discussion did involve comments like, "Man, that girl is going to be messed up when she gets older."
As much as the movie says it's about superheroes in the "real world," it's really not. It definitely has a comic, cartoony feel to it.

That was my main beef with it too. In the beginning he was just a normal kid dressed up, and I felt like they really maintained that until the end with that goofy jet pack scene. Maybe the point of the film was that he went from being an ordinary kid to being a comic book hero? I just know that I really really enjoyed the movie up to the point where Big Daddy dies, and from then on out it just felt kind of forced and only normally enjoyable.

| I find it funny that none of the theaters around me have "Kick-Ass" on their signs.
Even indoors. It's just "Kick-A" |

| I will not be seeing this, solely because of the little girl doing and saying those things. I can understand it being "cartoonish to the point of being a parody" but it's not a cartoon, it's a real, pre-teen girl being depicted as doing grotesque things. I personally don't think I'd want to see that in any context.

| I do appreciate the concept of the cartoonish feel, but for the same reasons as Napoleon said I won't be seeing it.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight. | |

| Great movie. I'm not sure I'd rank it above The Dark Knight, but it's far more fun than any comic-book film I've seen since Iron Man. Nic Cage's Adam West impersonation had me in tears a few times. Highly recommend. |

| Is it okay if I resurrect the thread?
I rented the film last week; saw it twice; enjoyed it twice as much.
I loved the story and thought it was well done.
I thought it was impressive when it went from a simple parody to a darker, and almost tragic overtone. Loved it when Kick-Ass did his comeuppance upon Frank's goons with the jet-pack/machine/minigun; Elvis Presley's song during that scene was a great touch to it too.
My only quibble was Chris/Red Mist's involvement in the end, when he promised to help Kick-Ass, only to somehow decide to go against him for no reason.
Still loved it overall.
This is prob the best superhero parody since Darkwing Duck.
