| Good PC games out recently (the last year or two)? Hey all,
My family wants to know what games I'd be interested in as possible birthday/Christmas presents. Since I won't have access to an Xbox pretty soon, but will have access to my PC, I thought some PC games would be good. However, I haven't really been following PC games 'cause I only just recently got a decent PC. Ideas? Suggestions? I like tactical shooters, the occasional RPG, definitely RTS's, and stuff along those lines.
Gracias. |

| If I were going to pick up a PC game right now it would be Dragon Age: Origins. The consensus seems to be that the PC version is superior to the 360 and PS3 iterations.
Actually it's priced at $39 now...I think I'm starting to convince myself to get it, haha.

| Yeah for a long old-school RPG, I understand you can't go wrong with Dragon Age.
If you want something that's a great Diablo-style timesink, Torchlight is great. It's also pretty much a steal at $20.
ARMAII if your interested in "so realistic I don't find it fun, but apparently some people are way into it" type FPS. The system requirements are pretty massive, though.
Dawn of War II, I hear is good. I bought it on that Steam black friday sale, but I haven't installed it yet.
Empire Total War is probably good if you're into the Total War series.
Zeno Clash is another one I'd recommend taking a look at. It's an extremely unique first person fighting game that takes place in one of the craziest, most bizarre game worlds I've ever seen. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but there's definitely nothing else like it.
If you don't mind old style adventure games, the new Monkey Island games are pretty funny.
That's all I got off the top of my head. I think almost everything on that list has a demo as well, so you don't have to go in totally blind. I think Dragon Age is the only one that doesn't have a real demo. But that... If you've played Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights, you basically know how that game works. |

| I support Mass Effect or Even Knights of the Old Republic, or both. To purchase them both for the PC wouldn't cost you more than 35 or so dollars, and they are two of my favorite games of all time. Definitely worth it, in my estimation. |

| Demigod is a great game... a few bugs and balance issues are still being hashed out, but the gameplay is spectacular, and it looks amazing graphically. Its along similar lines to DotA, with a few new concepts that make for a very unique MOBA experience.
...I promise I'm not just trying to get more people to play with...

Checked out demos for DoW 2 (it was okay, but not fantastic), ARMA2 (did not like the interface or the crazy mouse lag), and Empire Total War (Decent game, may consider getting it. I like me mah RTS's).
Definitely will check out Zeno Clash and possibly Monkey Island, though I'm not really big into adventure games. Quote:

Mass Effect I'm going to borrow for the Xbox 360 at some point, I think, so I'm probably going to leave that one alone for now. Quote:

Problem is, I need more single-player oriented games right now due to the fact that I probably will only have crappy-at-best internet access overseas and anywhere I'll be doing all of this stuff.
Thanks for all the suggestions, and keep 'em coming if you think of them! |

| Mass Effect is infinitely superior on the PC. I played the 360 edition first, and it is just hardly playable in consideration.
Not that it isn't good on the 360, but after I played it on the PC I cannot ever go back to the 360... It's too painful. They spent a lot of time making it a better game on the PC. |

Aside from the usual graphical and controller inferiority of consoles, what was so different about it? I'm just curious. |

It is just a more polished game, in general, and there are no "Oh man are you serious I have to do this work?" moments in the PC version... Haha. |

| It's likely coming out SOON(tm)
As for games, I could recommend some free stuff, but that's pretty useless for christmas present ideas lol...

And, honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the original... Sure, it's not bad, but it's never struck me as as fun a game as, say, AoE. |
