| I got a shipping confirmation yesterday. Not sure when it'll be here, as customs is evil, but I'm really freaking excited to get this. |

| So it came in the mail today and I'm loving it so far. The modulation gets wacky really quickly, but I've been playing around with it for about an hour and it's all warm analogy goodness! Clips forthcoming.. most likely tomorrow. |

| So I'm still trying to get some clips together, but I need to borrow a decent camera because I'd rather do a video. However, I'll give a quick review:
It doesn't really sound anything like a DMM, but I wasn't expecting it to so that's all good. It has it's own thing going on. The repeats on my Carbon Copy were definitely a little more pristine and clear, but I actually really like the dirtiness of the repeats on the DMB after playing with it more. It keeps it a little more subtle which is nice for what I play. However, you can definitely get some more in your face delays by turning the blend and gain knobs up.
The gain knob is an awesome addition, as with my SMMH, a volume drop with the blend knob has always been an issue. I actually gigged with this pedal for the first time last night, and I was just cranking the gain for a couple songs and using it as a lead boost with dotted eigth delays which really sounded cool. I found that this pedal worked extremely well in a band context as it isn't as overpowering as my SMMH and it sits much more comfortably in the whole band mix.
I'm not a huge fan of the modulation. Basically, the depth knob can either go in a sine wave or a square wave, and I find that I really have to keep the depth low on either setting or else it gets extremely out of control and weird sounding. It's nice if you keep it subtle, but it's not as nice as the modulation on my SMMH which is nowhere near as wacky.
The tap divide button is extremely useful. Just tap your tempo, then choose what kind of rhythm you want to repeats to be in. I really like the quarter triplets and the dotted eigths. IF you hold the tap divide button down, it will start cycling through all the tap divisions, and you can control how fast it cycles through them with the rate knob. It's a pretty cool feature, but it's a little impractical for anything other than trying to make weird rhythmic sounds.
You can also use an expression pedal with it, but unfortunately I do not have one to try. However if you hold down the exp. mode button, you will enable a lo-cut mode in which the rate knob becomes essentiallly a tone knob. Really cool and useful for making the repeats more subtle by taking out some of the darkness.
The delay knob gives you a maximum delay time of 650 ms. However, using the tap tempo, I tapped out about 1500 ms. It sounds super saturated and odd, as it is an analog delay and that's quite long, but hey, if you need more time, you can get more time by just tapping. Overall I'd say this pedal is worth every penny and it absolutely smokes any other options out there for an analog delay with tap tempo. |

| Yeah, I PROMISE I'll have some up tomorrow. I will have no homework whatsoever on my spare tomorrow, so I will record some clips and post them. |

| Okay, so here's a quick clip I did today. I basically just noodled a bit, so the playing is somewhat sloppy, but you get the idea. I do some parts clean and I throw a bit of dirt in a couple places. I want to actually do a video to give some ideas of different settings because there aren't many on youtube, but I haven't found the time yet. |

| Can I say that your lead tone just totally blew me away? Good work.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight. | |
