Netbooks.

Who's got one? I'll most likely be picking up the HP mini 110, with a 6 cell battery, and Windows 7 starter, which I'll probably upgrade to Home Premium, for Media Center (I'll be hooking it up to a second monitor, and most likely upgrade the RAM), and the ability to change my wallpaper. (Yes, I'll disable Aero)
Anyone have experience with the HP model here?

I have had really bad luck with HPs just dying. 2 (in the past year and a half) One experienced total failure halfway through class in a new building. The other, the screen went out on it and it just quit booting at all. Catastrophic hardware failures in both cases, and on pretty babied machines.

I also suggest getting a model with xp if you plan to get 7 as an upgrade. Most of the prices I saw when my wife got hers were about $50 less for the same hardware specs and XP over windows 7 starter.

My wife has the toshiba one and it is just great, (even running aero) without upgrading the ram. (I was stunned)

0.o seriously?

Well, I don't really have a choice on which netbook to get, because the particular mini is included in a Best Buy deal, where you get a desktop, monitor, netbook, wireless router, and a laptop all for a greatly discounted price.

Yeah, no one in my family has had good luck with HP. I've had an Asus Netbook for a little over a year, and I love it.

Seriously. I mean, we don't run many high intensity programs on her laptop, but just general usage, hers works fine and dandy, and while I planned to upgrade the ram, I don't have plans to now until there is a distinct reason.

I mean, my wife uses it pretty much for internet, office, and a video now and again. Works great.

I assume, you are going for one with an atom processor?

Yes, an atom. Here's the one: HP® Official Store — Buy the HP Mini 110-1125NR Netbook, Black Swirl direct from HP

I've been wanting to get one for some time now, but wanted to wait for them to drop in price just a little. I was hoping to find one this year on Black Friday for cheap, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get that lucky.

Amazon had one for $200 for their black Friday deals, but it may or may not be gone now.

It was gone by the time that I got the e-mail this morning.

Then there's this, if you don't mind the 8.9 inch screen, and 8GB SSD. Dell Mini 9 Price Comparison, Sales & Reviews Ubuntu.

For those of you with Netbooks, have any of you done any light coding (Visual Basic, simple Java programs etc). My main windows laptop hasn't been cooperating lately, and I need something to do some light coding on every once in a while.
