Google's Chrome OS revealed -- with video! -- Engadget

I'm actually pretty excited about this. Thoughts?

Seems like it could be promising. The only thing is that they are requiring it to be run on Google approved hardware. That could end up being an issue getting it out there. Of course, if it's a netbook driven program (which it seems to be given the fact that it's focused around the internet so much), it may have found a niche. I can see it being a competitor to the standard Linux operating system on a netbook and maybe Microsoft so long as Microsoft doesn't drop the price too much on the license for a netbook.

obviously, this is designed to be a supplement to another computer. I've got dozens of gigabytes of media on my iMac. But this would be nice for surfing the web while I watch TV.

for now it would be a supplement...but perhaps this is the first true step towards cloud computing. it just getting scary that google is taking steps to own hardware and software...all roads lead to google.

I wonder if they could possibly making it to where it would fit on a flash drive. I know this may not be their original plan of action, but it may be the best. Think about, there is already Damn Small Linux which will fit on a flash drive. That way you would just have to plug in the flash drive to get this to work. I tried using DSL for a while, but it was too clunky for what I wanted to do and wasn't any faster. I believe it's mainly because it wasn't very polished.

Should Google choose this route, I believe they could make a dent in the market. Say every hour or so you had to watch a 30 second advertisement. That way they would reap financially from it and you would get to use a polished operating system.

I'd just like to say that I called this like three years ago on this forum.

Obviously, I'm not the only one who saw this coming, though.

Google is way too subtle to resort to flashing take-over advertisements at you. They don't do it on Youtube, they don't do it in their search engine, they don't do it with their advertisements, and they don't do it in Gmail.

I actually like this concept a lot, And once this starts to come out on netbooks, I might go pick one up.
