Question Crunch-Tone (line 6)

I have a Crunch-Tone (Picture at the bottom) and I was wondering what the gates actually do? Are there any suggest settings for the pedal that get a good tone for praise and worship, Hard rock, Metal?

I keep mine like this:

Praise and worship
Level (this is like the volume. I guess to balance the volume of the amp with the pedal.): dot 5 1/2
Bass : dot 4
Treble : dot 8
Overdrive : dot 7
Mode : Blues

Hard rock
Level : 6
Bass : 5
Treble : 9
Overdrive : 9
Mode : Crunch

Metal
Level : 6
Bass : 7
Treble : 10
Overdrive : 11
Mode : Crunch

That give's me the best (I can find) for praise an worship, Hard Rock, Metal. Any other ideas?
Are there other effect pedals I can add to them to create and get a good, solid tone?

1) What is your amp?
2) Are you wanting one setting for all those?
3) Just so you know, barometric pressure, relative humidity, conditions on the electric lines, number of people in the audience all actually effect tone. Also, Potentiometers, (what your knobs turn) are notorious for being a bit different in their sweep. 20 pedals with the same exact sound would all have the knobs at slightly different places.
4) What do you mean by each of your terms? Tourniquet's tone is different from Megadeth is different from Metallica is different from Black Sabbath is different from Stryper is different from Children of Bodom. And that is just a tiny slice of metal.
5) Price range for new pedals. My favorite high gain pedals are the MI Audio crunchbox, (Classic british sounding gain, and the wampler triple recstortion( The new version which looks even better is the triplewreck) which is a mesa style distortion. The CB is around $90. The wampler is around $200.

And I prefer amp gain. If you have a decent amp, I might recommend a clean boost. SBN Pedals makes the BDAB, which is the best I have ever heard. Eric is a board member here, and I think a good 10-15 board members at least use them and we tend to have them be a favorite pedal. I use 2 of them. I do not have any other effect I would want 2 of.

I would really suggest you get rid of it. not a great pedal at all IMHO. it also depends on what you're running it through for an amp. I suggest a MI CrunchBox, I think it's my favorite "high Gain" OD.

well, if you're really wanting to stick with this pedal, here's my suggestion for getting a good "worship" sound.

If I were you, I would experiment a lot with turning the gain knob down A LOT to 2 or 3 and turning the level knob up, and then experiment switching between the different modes on the pedal.

No, I would need different pedals to do that. Wouldn't I?

Yes, but I was going to try a lot of other people's settings to see what works best.

I do not know. When did I say "each of my terms?"

This pedal was given to me, so therefore I have not really tried a lot of pedals so until I get a chance to go try a bunch of pedals I was going to make the most of what I have.

So they are that good uh? I will have to check them out.

I don't need a picture.

Not necessarily. I think a tube zone would do most all of those with a lot of knob twisting, but it is not a particularly user friendly pedal. Not one I would recommend to a beginner.

My point was mostly this. Pedals vary, a lot. Anybody elses settings would likely sound differently. Use your ears. Try to get the sound of a particular song you like.

Metal, praise and worship, and hard rock. All of those are vastly broad. I dare say I could use most of my dirt boxes for any of those. In fact, most of them, I could get a good sound of for all of those. Then again, I tend to play praise and worship with a fair amount of distortion. We need points of reference to see what you are striving to achieve. What do YOU mean when you say metal? What do you mean by hard rock? Do you mean ACDC or 3 days grace, or something altogether different?

More important than this is this, decide what tones you are looking for. Give us an idea, and we can help steer you where to look.

They are, but only if you like your amp's distortion on the BDAB. I don't think Eric has done any over the top metal pedals. If he ever does... I am buying one.

There are hundreds of great pedals out there. Most of the really good ones are not going to be in a local store. And the really great thing about Eric's pedals is that they are not only top notch, I dare say his are not priced fairly. His prices are low for what they are.
I am not trying to be ornery at all, but I have played a LOT of pedals to find the ones I like. A lot of us here have, and there are lots of really cool pedals that were not what I was wanting.

I really like Lincoln Brewster's effect for praise and worship, Skillet for hard rock, and I guess Disciple for metal.

If you like Brewster's tone, then I again suggest what I already said.

I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make. I gave you advice on how to make the most of what you have to get a Lincoln Brewster type tone.

Yeah man, he's telling you suggestions on how to get potentially decent tone out of the pedal you already have, not telling you to get new gear.
