On the way to work this morning, I noticed my dashboard wasn't as well lit as usual. Then, as I was pulling into the parking lot, my battery warning light came on. This has happened before,but it usually turns back off. At that moment, my battery gauge began to drop significantly. I don't know if the truck will start after work.

Does it seem more likely that this is a problem with the battery, or with the alternator?

It's a 2001 F-150 4.2LV6, if you need to know.

I have a 2004 F-150, with the 4.6 and i had an old battery and my dash would flicker and my needles for speedo and tach wouldn't move after a cold start but they would twitch and my trip odometer would reset. then when i changed it my headlights went brighter and the dash was fixed, certainly a new battery with a warranty would be worth it even if it was the alternator, and the battery would be cheaper

It was the alternator... I'll get a new battery with a different paycheck.
