Sunday Night RPGing?

Not sure what game we would play yet, but we could use a free voice program and the Dices program to play a game over the internet. I'm thinking 4 to 5 players would be good.

I would be down for some D&D 3.5. If it's a different game, I would still be down, but my unnecessarily large number of 3.5 books would go to waste...

I've tried to play by voice over the internet before, though, and the main issue was that we were all in different time zones.

That said, I would be up for it as long as I don't have to GM/DM as I already DM for my group.

Well, the Dices client is a free program that actually gives you a virtual tabletop.

3.5 sounds good to me... I have some house rules though... You can suggest changes, I'm flexible, but this is to make things smoother.

You get a bag of holding. Worrying about how much you're carrying is too big of a hassle. Things that fit in said bag of holding are at the DM's discretion and must be logical and reasonable. A keg of beer does not fit, a Ladder does not fit, a battering ram also does not fit. Rope, candles, lanterns, etc, all count.

Leveling is done based off how many games you show up for and are active in and the DM should grant Levels fairly often when lower, and slow down a bit when higher levels.

Start at level 5. Anything lower is too boring.

All books are open.

Skills:

1. Hide and Move Silently are combined into the stealth skill.
2. Climb, Jump, and Swim are combined into the athletics skill.
3. Gather Information, Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive are combined into the Diplomacy skill.
4. Ninja's Hidden Strike is now uses the sneak attack rules.
5. Spot and Listen are now combined into perception.

If one of the skills is cross-class for you, but another is not, then that skill is not cross-class for you.

Basically I do this because it makes things smoother and easier.

I don't mind any of those changes, though I would make massive adjustments to how Diplomacy is used in game if all those skills are rolled into it.

Simplicity is good. A huge reason I stopped playing D&D is because of the retarded amounts of math you have to do, even as a player. I'm not sure I agree with every single one of those skill bundles. All they would do is make it that much easier for me to min-max a perfect character. I would suggest 4th edition, which balances the classes much better (no more un-killable characters) and simplifies the game considerably.

I've been putting more thought into this and truthfully I don't have anything better to do sunday nights. I don't care what system it is, but I'm probably interested.

I'm down, especially since our current group will most likely stop meeting when one of the players moves on the 15th.

If it's a success, I might be up for it again in the future at a time that isn't Sunday night as Sunday night there = Monday morning here. Although if you can get a clearer definition of Sunday night then it could maybe be possible.

Between my father and myself we have all main editions of D&D rules to some extent although only have PHB 1 + 2 of 4th edition so far. I have to say it's set out a lot nicer and easier to read than any of the other rule books I've seen but I haven't had a chance to play it yet

I think what edition it is, isn't ultimately that important. It's more the style of gaming and DMing and the people you're playing with that makes a big difference. You can make any of them more combat based, more complex, less complex or more complex, less or more acting/role playing.

I have a Campaign Setting, Wilderlands of High Fantasy, which suggests a slower experience progression for 3.5. I honestly haven't played enough to have a great opinion on much of this but I think for a group that plays every week, it certainly could be worth considering.

Eric keeps asking me about this and I think I want to give it a go. Maybe next sunday or sunday after next. lets shoot for 7:30 EST. I need to find the dices client again and figure out how it works. I guess I could DM.

3.5 it seems is like what people want. If you wanna do another setting or system let me know.

I'm going to build a high DPR mage. I suppose I could also build a support mage if someone else wanted the DPR role...

I like logic puzzles and exciting dungeons, but there's always a place for story.

Are the prestige classes from DMG available? I'm specifically interested in Loremaster and/or Archmage. My current thinking is either Wizard 10 (PHB) / Geometer 5 (Complete Arcane) / Archmage 5 (DMG) or Wizard 5 / Geometer 5 / Loremaster 10 (DMG) at 20th ECL... Probably the second one...

This sounds awesome, but Rachael and I now have softball on Sundays, usually at 5:30 PST...
