| Orange or Mesa? I'm planning on buying a new amplifier. I have narrowed it down to either an Orange (Rockerverb 50 or 100), and Mesa/Boogie (Dual or Triple Rectifier). I play a Carvin CS6, and I am looking for a good Rock amp. I want something that sounds like "What if his people prayed" from Casting Crowns, Skillet, Switchfoot, Sanctus Real. I am not looking into heavy metal; the heaviest I am looking for is a Skillet sound. Will the Orange be able to pull these sounds? Any comments and opinions are greatly appreciated. :-) |

The Orange and Mesa I think will leave you sorely dissappointed in the genres you are looking at.
I would love those amps, but I play a bit more old-school punk, metal and hardcore.
I think you could make the mesa do everything you want, I just think you could probably do better elsewhere.

| If you're looking at Mesa's do yourself a favor and look at the Electra Dyne. It will do the stuff you're looking at much much better than a Dual rec and you get the bonus of a clean tone that doesn't sound flat and lifeless. It's a seriously good amp and definitely worth a look for the stuff you're talking about!
The old Mesa's from the 90's like the Dual rec and Mark IV are a bit blah and lifeless, especially on the clean settings. The Electra Dyne and Mark V however have completely blown me away. Gone are the flat and dull clean tones we all know from Mesa. These amps have tons of depth and character and are extremely versatile

| Actually if you are absolutely set on either of those two brands, I would recommend a lower-wattage Orange. Obviously go play them and check them out before you buy anything, but I just love what the 30watt Orange amps sound like. Just don't drive the gain up all the way or you will get more of a metal sound.

Switchfoot can be seen live and in their vids playing the along with Sanctus Real. Go for the AC15 over the 30 because then if you DO want heavy, you have the headroom to crank up the gain and get that extra crunch. Also you really should consider a Marshall JCM800 because in the studio I guarantee at least 50% of the guitar sounds you hear have it either entirely Marshall or at least blended in ALOT. Just a thought.

| The studios I worked in very rarely used Marshalls. Even when we rented gear we would only occasionally get a Marshall and I only saw it actually being recorded once. Vox, Mesa and Fenders were much more common with the occasional boutique amp thrown in. We did a lot of indie rock and some countryish stuff though... probably would have seen more Marshalls if we were doing some different genres, but even then 50% is way more than I would suspect is accurate. |

| I am a mesa express fan, it can drop down to 5 watts and is a single ended class A at that level
without the rectifier wall-o-gain
The orange and matchless sound great too especially for singing sustained leads
....I am gonna agree with the Vox for versatility |

| If you are not going to be that heavy than i would go for the orange out of your choices. The mesa dual rec is awesome no doubt. However the rockerverb does a bit of a better job on the cleaner channels imo
