You notice I always refer to serving on the deacon body. I am very confident that your past does not prohibit you from being a "deacon" as in the greek word diakonos. I try to stress to those that seem hurt that they are not allowed to serve on the deacon body that your calling is to serve the needs of the church and that there are plenty of oppurtunities apart from being on the deacon body.
