Pipa

I had the pleasure of seeing Wu Man last night, and I was just amazed by this instrument. Just all the different sounds and tones that come out of that instrument.

Anybody else familiar with this instrument and/or know how they make that plinking noise?

Crazy instrument, crazy performer. She shreds better on that than I could hope to on my guitar

I'm not very familiar with the instrument itself though

EDIT: Just watched it again, I think the plinking is just muted strings, like if you were to try to play a harmonic an inch from the bridge.

I am so jealous! I love the pipa--I would love to learn it some day.

I think the plinking sound isn't necessarily muted strings, though it could be, but rather strings played right on the bridge.

and for more pipa...

I really like liu fang.

read more books! listen to more classical, jazz and world music! play more other stringed instruments!
