This is a brand-new crime/drama directed by Werner Herzog (who has also made numerous well-critiqued foreign films, the documentary
Grizzly Man, and the recent Christian Bale film
Rescue Dawn). It is a remake of a film simply entitled
Bad Lieutenant (and despite the fact that I'm not a fan of remakes in general, this looks like a major exception).
Here's the plot:
"Terence McDonagh is a drug- and gambling-addled detective in post-Katrina New Orleans investigating the killing of five Senegalese immigrants."
The main role of Terence is being played by Nicolas Cage. Supporting actors include Val Kilmer, Eva Mendes, and Xzibit. Here's the trailer:

I'm actually looking forward to this. Many of the review I've read say that Nicolas Cage is in top form in this film, ala
Leaving Las Vegas,
Adaptation and other performances of his of that level of quality. It's about time Cage got to work on something this good again.
