Dates for the poor college student

What are some good date ideas if you have under $20, under $10, and just plaiiin zippo? I have zero cash at the moment, but I'd like to do something cute with my SO (FYI, we've been dating for a week.)

my roommate and I won movie tickets, which we used for a roommate-date night. the only thing you have to pay is gas money!

other free things:

go to museums on free days!

go letterboxing!

go to the park!

go on a sight-seeing scavenger hunt around your town!

(disclaimer: I haven't actually done these with a date. these are just things I do with coworkers as a broke public servant. =))

Outdoor excursions are always a good way to go. If you live near a mountain (and are not averse to exercise), a hike can be a great chance to spend some time alone together, especially if you can afford to scrounge up a little food and have a mountaintop picnic. Other than that, basically any kind of pretty, nature-esque outdoor setting can be romantic -- taking walks around a pond, by a river, swimming (but not this time of year, unless you live way down south ).

I also second the museum idea. If you're a student, chances are there are some museums nearby that'll offer you either a discount or a free pass. Take advantage.

The real trick is to convince a friend or relative to work for a local movie theater.

Not specific to dates, but this is an awesome post I read on another community I visit about things to do without a lot of money:

Hacker News | This is going to be a tedious list. I'll limit the list to things I can do witho...

Find a friend who has some casual video games and borrow them. This include the system, and perhaps the television if you have to.

Correction:
1. Have a girl who likes the above.
2. Carry out said idea.

If you like movies, Netflix is definitely a good deal in the long run IMO.

movies are fun but don't do them all the time, or as the only thing you do since you can't really talk through a movie.

Puzzles, board games, etc are all good choices too if the weather is nasty.

I live on the coast so the cheapest is to buy coffee and go to the beach, where we will sit on the cliff and I will serenade her with my heavenly voice (cough). But if you don't live by the sea there has to be some cool outdoorsy crap you can do.

Eh, everyone should enjoy Mario Kart and Wii Sports at least a little.

Ah my bad, I was going for the general crowd. The town where my school is doesn't really provide anything to do other than hike when it's warm and ski when it's cold... A lot of our cheap together time is actually during meals on campus. If you usually eat on campus with a meal plan that's not in danger of running out, I definitely recommend taking advantage of that time too.

And I heard that last week the single movie theater bumped prices to 9 bucks.. For a matinee.

I concur with those that suggested museum free days. Also, most zoos will have a free day. Often time city recreation centers will have free/discount days, so if you and your date like racquetball, or tennis etc.

Here's a good one that's seasonal, but it's almost the right season. Most towns have certain neighborhoods that are known for putting on great Christmas light displays. My family loves to go through DQ drive through for a treat, then spend an hour or so touring the light displays.
