| good christmas songs hey, our music team at our church does a musical item-y thing every year at christmas time, was looking for a good christmas song... doesnt necessarily have to be a worship song, but needs to have a good christian message, and be reasonably up-beat
thanks for any suggestions

| Relient K's - Celebrate the Day
It's an amazing song that not many people have heard. The lyrics are pretty blunt too.

| One year we played Stange Way to Save the World by 4Him. I love the melody although I struggle to reach some of those high notes! |

| i like the classics, but also modern interpretations of some of them can be quite good. i.e. Trans Siberian Orchestra.
I find a lot of the christmas music on the radio to be awful simply because it's devoid of any passion or feeling and it's just kind of ho-hum. |

| Agreed. I think starting with a traditional basis will be better because it naturally evokes the "it's CHRISTMAS!" feelings of childhood. Then you get to play with it.

| Christmas before last, I did a duet with one of our gals who plays flute. We did "What Child Is This" with me on classical guitar. Played it through twice for an offertory, taking turns on melody. Very traditional sound, came off quite nice.
"Silent Night" was originally written for guitar, of course, so there's a nice tradition in performing it with acoustic guitar accompaniment.
But I'd really like to do "I Believe In Father Christmas" by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer. They said there'll be snow at christmas
They said there'll be peace on earth
Hallelujah noel be it heaven or hell
The christmas we get we deserve

| I'm definitely an old classic kind of guy - O Holy Night etc. That might not be upbeat enough for you but it is so good...

| we did celebrate the day last year, but thanks, agreed, good song, ill look up a few of the rest later.
But yeah, i was looking for up-beat the team involves 2 guitars, bass, keys, drums, and numerous vocals, we have a sax but not brilliant, and we can bring in a violin if necessary...
we can already do all, or most of the tradition carols and stuff, i was thinking something like celebrate the day, something up-beaty that isnt really a congregational song and is more of a performance but still with a good christian message
thanks

David | With that level of instrumentation, I would go trans-siberian on something. I would also stylistically make it a performance.

| Christmas With a Capital C by Go Fish. I think it's fairly upbeat and it's got a couple of different parts in it so I think you could make it work.
