Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

I'm kind of surprised there is no thread here yet.

I finally caught up to the 7th generation of gaming and purchased an Xbox 360 the other day. I'm not unfamiliar with the console, and I often played split-screen (mostly Halo3) with my friends. Figured it was time to get my own.

I also picked up CoD4: MW2 on a bit of a whim (and all my friends were getting it). I was a huge fan of the very first (PC) Call of Duty and expansion (still occasionally play United Offensive), and after seeing CoD2, was a little leery of the direction of the CoD series, and having a dated PC and 6th gen console, never got back into it.

So far, I'm very impressed. I haven't had a chance to touch the Campaign yet, but the multiplayer is fun and the maps I have seen are excellent, and the special ops mode is a blast (reminds me of Rainbow 6, Vegas 2's terrorist hunt, but faster paced and more scenario-like).

Anyone else get it?

I absolutely can not wait until I pick this up. . .
Unfortunately, I'm not going to do that until after finals I know they're a month away, but I'll still be playing it waay more than I should when that time rolls around.

*Maybe spoiler-ish*

To those of you who have played it, or heard about it, I'm pretty disappointed with that one mission they put in the campaign. That's just not right.

I heard about that. The kind of moral quandry presented by the mission you see all the time in shows like 24.

I don't have the game (or a next-gen console for that matter), but I watched the gameplay footage for the mission on YouTube. It is graphic and disturbing, yes. But it appears you can skip the level if you want, and even if you go into the level you don't have to shoot.

Here is the Activision's official statement:
Quote:
Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 features a deep and gripping storyline in which players face off against a terrorist threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. The game includes a plot involving a mission carried out by a Russian villain who wants to trigger a global war. In order to defeat him, the player infiltrates his inner circle. The scene is designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism.
Let's not forget that this game is rated M for mature, so anyone under 17 should not be playing it. I know they do, but they aren't supposed to be.

I played some Multiplayer of this the other night, and I have to say, it might be the game that convinces me to get an Xbox 360.

p.s. it's just COD:MW2, there's no 4 involved. If anything it's COD6

A bunch of guys (myself included) in the dorm went in together and bought the game the day it came out (tues?) Brought it home about 7 pm, and I'm sure the xbox wasn't shut off until 5 am.

This game is quite excellent, the graphics are stunning, the new maps are cool, and numerous, and the gameplay is quite excellent, both multiplayer, and the challenging campaign. I also like the small attempt with a mini mission thing in co-op. I'd like to play the actual campaign in coop as well, but I suppose its fine.

I think some of the level stuff in multiplayer is quite cheap. Example: the thermal scope. If I have a machine gun, or even a regular sniper, I have nothing on my buddy who is across the field etc with his thermal scope. It points people out in a very cheap manner.

Also the maps are quite large in general. There only seems to be one small map for multiplayer, and the rest all seem huge. To big for four people to play on in intense action. And two people would be worse.

I really, really want to get this for my PS3. Pretty much all of my friends have it already, haha.

I'm not really a fan of the series but I had to see what all the hubub was about. I watched the controversial segment on youtube. I understand why people have a problem with it. That said, it has been blown out of proportion. It isn't anything remotely close to terrorist training.

Kentl: you can watch it on youtube, but essentially you're in a terrorist cell that's in an airport and you can mow down civilians willy-nilly. It has some people very bent out of shape.

Yeah. Here's a clip where one of the writers from kotaku discusses the level on MSNBC: MSNBC Talks Terrorism of Modern Warfare 2 With Totilo - Modern warfare 2 - Kotaku

For me, it conjured up images of the security tapes from the Columbine massacre.

I just beat the game on Regular. Maybe I'm just not that great, but wow it was pretty challenging for that difficulty, although perhaps somewhat less challenging than the last modern warfare (I had tons of trouble on the sniper mission in that one). I thought the twist was kind of shocking, and made for a great story. Although I'm not thrilled with the ending because I think it left some business unfinished, I'm satisfied.
