changing names

Ok, I know there must be some forum with some post amongst the thousands of posts on this board where some people are yucking it up at how funny changing someone's name to some inside joke is. But for those of us who are outside the joke, which is likely a majority of people on this board, we don't get it. And instead, we're just confused. So can it please stop?

As someone who gets his name changed several times a year, I obviously find it hilarious... but that's me.

to me it's funny even if i dont know the joke but i live in CPF so that is rare

Call me a wet blanket if you want, but it's annoying. I don't go into CPF at all. I don't get the joke. And it's annoying because I no longer have a context for which to know who I'm listening to or responding to. It can be especially annoying when you're in a discussion with someone about serious topics. I've been here long enough to get a certain feel for specific users, and even have somewhat friendly relationships with some, if not real friendships from a few. And I know who to just avoid having any argument with because it's a useless endeavor. If people are changing names all over the place and I'm out of the loop, I pretty much lose that. I remember a while back how much changing names was frowned on for these very reasons. I hate my username now, but I never changed it because I thought that was a pretty hard and set rule.

we don't chnage our names, they get chnaged for us, most of the time we dont even know it in till we login next.

Hence, why I posted here in an attempt to have the issue read by those in charge who are changing the names.

Well yes. That was the precedent. It WAS a hard rule that for whatever reason seems to be thrown out for the sake of some laughs in a forum most people don't even go in to. Whether I personally change my name or some admin does doesn't really matter to me, other than who to blame.

I have to say, I completely agree. It may be funny for the 5 people who are "in" on it, but it is extremely annoying the rest of us, especially us who do not go to CPF.

And not even just those who are doing it "for fun and laughs" but the legitimate name changes as well. That was why we (former admin staff) put a kibosh on name changes, because it was becoming too much to keep track of who was formerly who and stuff.

But I am a nobody these days, just how I like it.

I don't mind it. For the most part, if somebody I want to talk to has had their name changed, I can figure it out pretty quick and just roll with it. The only time the name changes have really gotten on my nerves was that time when we had 15 Commas. I can't think of any time I've been genuinely unable to figure out who someone was.

Then again, I'm a CPF mod. *shrug*
