Thinking about becoming a Music minister.

I know I am too young right now. I will be praying about it to make sure it is Gods will. It does not seam like he disapproves. I was wanting to know who I could talk to about this and what all you have to do. I play guitar so I guess that helps.

Most "music ministers" are volunteer. So as you get closer to career choice time, know that you can do just about anything for a living, and still be a music minister.

But if you're serious about vocational ministry, then I would start looking at schools that have some sort of church music (worship leadership) program. Others will pursue a bachelors degree first, then attend seminary.

Is there a music minister at your current church? If so, that's a great person to talk to.

okay well one question.. do you want to be a worship leader or a worship pastor?

I for one know I`m called to be a worship pastor, so a pastoral and musical role at the church. I`m at school right now to become a worship pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

If you want to be a worship leader, that`s a lot different. Most likely not full time, volunteer, much less of a pastoral aspect.

So what exactly are you thinking?

I already play in the church band. I have been for maybe 2 out of 3 years of playing guitar.

I was sure there would be some schools to attend. Are there any you recommend?

The music minister at my church as had some problems and had to leave it was serious so don't judge or nothing. I do have his number and we talk on a daily basses. So I could talk to him.

I want to do whatever it takes to witness to those who need Jesus through music. So I guess what ever it takes. I will go as far as I have to.

Teenagers love music. So maybe they would get something out of it if we bury the good news of the gospel deep inside.

Also I want to share the love of Christ to everyone and let them know no matter what there going through they can over come it if they put their trust In Jesus Christ and repent and turn a way from their sins. So they can then be re-born and have the peace in knowing that God is always there for them. And I guess to minister with music. [/no sarcasm intended]

it sounds to me more like you want to be in an outreach type band (davidcrowder, skillet, whathave you) not be a worship leader.
leading worship isn`t supposed to be focused on getting people saved. it is about Christians coming before God and glorifying Him. that`s what Biblical, congregational "worship" should be. so if that`s not your main focus, you might want to rethink this.

Of course you can do both, but it's highly unlikely you can do both well.

So are you more interested in playing in a praise band or "leading worship?"

For example, if you like playing in a praise band, that is something fulfilling you could do the rest of your life.

If you are interested in leading and being in a leadership role, then you could be a youth pastor. At our church, the youth pastor kind of mentors the praise band. he isn't really the "leader" of the band per se, but he does play a role in making sure they are practicing and doing what he sees fit.

My calling is playing the guitar, but I just don't have much hope for joining the praise band at the church I attend. There are already 5 guitar players and I just think they'd laugh at me if I told them I wanted to play too.

I recently started attending a church and started playing in the praise band as lead guitarist. The pastor and worship leader saw me as a 'God send' (no pun intended). Of all of the members of the band, the worship leader and I are the only two well-versed in actual music theory. Our direction is moving forward into more complex realms of music. So, how does this tie in to the subject at hand?

I was called to use my talents to glorify His name, to reach out to people through music. Recently still, and after much prayer, I have been called to also assist the youth pastor by starting a youth band. With an average of 300-400 in attendance each week, we have a large youth group to pull talent from. It is my hope to teach music to a young musicians, mentor them in they're daily struggles and, hopefully, take my place when I get too old to play.
