PT Test

So I have a PT test in about three hours...

I have never had any trouble with PT at all... but I don't know why i get so nervous!
I know I can do it.. but just the word "test" thrown in there.. I HATE that word.

Here I am freakin' out when a PT test consists of working out for less then 20 minutes,
of doing the same stuff that I do almost every day..

it's just the fact of it being timed, and the pressure..

what in the heck is wrong with me?? UGH I hate this..

In four hours, I shall be happy...

I can relate to that! I think I get nervous about PT Tests just because I fear doing worse than I normally do. If I blow it, then I have to wait until the next one to rectify it. Not a fan.

Well I'm glad other people get nervous on PT tests also and it's not just me! lol

I know most of it is just me freaking myself out, but I want it to be over with!
At least it's only one every six months usually.. (except for schools in between)

While not enlisted, I did some PT tests with some Navy guys one time. I work out at the Naval base and have a lot of friends there. It was pretty crazy, I found out how much I suck according to the guy in charge. He said "Son, you would never make it in the NAYVAAY!" I said, "Sir, yes Sir, can I go throw up now?" And I did.

I kind of figured a PT test had something to do with the navy/army, but what exactly is a PT test?

Physical Training (I believe?) Test. Basically, it's the military's method of determining how "in shape" you are by, in the Army's case, seeing how many push-ups and sit-ups you can do (two minutes each) and how quickly you can run two miles.

What are the requirements to be in "army standard shape"?

This page has the age standards (there are multiple age groups) for both men and women. Bare minimum is a 60% in each category. For a male 17-21 years of age, 42 push-ups in two minutes, 53 sit-ups in two minutes, and at most a 15:54 two-mile run.

EDIT: Whoops... Here's the link to the page: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/...male17to21.htm

Eh, the guys (who actually had to pass the test) said I wasn't even in Standard Crossing Guard shape, much less U.S. Military shape. The test we took was much more rigorous than just sit ups and push ups and running. Not to say that I passed on the sit ups, push ups and running, but we had to hop up on this box that was like 5 feet tall (read: 18 inches) and do up downs for two minutes, so many pull ups, jump and slap a circle on the wall so many times, climb the peg wall and climb the rope. So, either I was in the Navy Seals PT test or they were messing with me.

Last PT Test, I maxed the push-ups and almost maxed the sit-ups, but I still needed to improve my run time... *Sigh* I'm not a fan of running at all . I didn't fail it or anything, but it needs work.

I could do the two mile run and the pushups... probably not the situps. Of course, I'm twenty-two, so I need to find the next chart.

Never know when I have to run a student down in the hallway...

I was in the Navy way back when, and got out and joined the Army Reserve band the Navy physical Fitness test consisted of more events, but the Army test had Longer runs (2 miles instead of 1), and I had to do more pushups and sit-ups than the Navy test. So it was kind of a wash.

As far as being nervous about it I think everyone is, the Army places a lot of emphasis on the test and everyone wants to do their best.

I was at a Christian military academy for two years. At my peak fitness, I could do 85 push-ups in 2 minutes, 95 sit-ups in two minutes, and run a 13:36 two mile. I even ran a 4:30 one mile once....but then I collapsed and threw up. Never did that again......
Thats pretty cool how ALERT's PT standards are just about the same as the Army's....
