I was aiming it at the theologically prideful crowd, but I saw it hit me as well, so, I leave whether it hits you to your conscience.
A proud theologian is an oxymoron that should be as anomalous as black holes in our living rooms. However, the prevalence of them I think speaks to our nature, as humans and our failure to understand God, and his relationship to us.
I feel fundamentalism taught us knowledge = bad
I feel academic pride is teaching us that knowledge is everything, when it is neither. It is important, but only to the end that we live it out in our daily lives. Anything other than that is rather disconcerting.
Why should knowledge of who God is as compared to who we are, make us feel better than another man? It should make us realize our failures. (as your quoted post actually shows)
