A stupid question...

There is such a thing.

What is it that I'm looking for?

I have a Tascam US-1641 USB interface for my recording rig. It's nice, except there's no individual outputs for each input. I have the option for a couple individual outputs, but it's not very practical for a live situation.

What I'm wanting is to somehow split a signal so that I can have it go directly into the recording interface on one output, and on the other output go to the soundboard. So, basically, splitting the signal into two signals.

I'm looking for one that does XLR inputs AND outputs.

Does such a thing exist? I know I could build one, but I'm sure if it is produced it would be much cheaper and easier in the long run. What is it that I'm looking for?

So you're trying to get a single source to the interface and the sound board at the same time?

What source are you trying for?

There are a couple ways to do it. If you have the option of 1/4inch cables, a DI is the simplest solution (plug into the input, use the XLR output to the board and the other 1/4inch to the interface). You can also use the direct outputs or Insert sends on the board to feed your interface. Or, if you don't have much latency, there's always the option of routing through the computer then to the sound board.

All those (and a few other options) depend on the source you're trying to record though...

Pretty much I want to be able to mic a band and record each input separately, while still sending some (if not all) signals to the soundboard for live amplification.

For instance:

Lead Vox Mic --> Splitter --> Recording Interface on Laptop
--> Soundboard --> Live Audience's Ears

The recording interface has XLR inputs on the front which are very convenient, but instead of individual physical outputs for each XLR input, it gives you the choice of 4 different unbalanced outputs, and all of which are directly affected by the gain input knob on the front and the computer. I want to avoid this by splitting the signal BEFORE the recording interface.

Buy ART S8 8-Channel Balanced Mic Splitter | Microphone Preamps | Musician's Friend

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...DSP?sku=630166

First link is the splitter I'm looking for...Second link is a completely different mixer that MIGHT do what I want...

The cool thing about the Tascam US-1641 that I have is that I can record 14 different tracks simultaneously without having to mix it down to a single stereo mix. I don't know if that's possible with that Alesis unit.

Opinions? Does it make sense what I'm asking?
