GOP Set to Propose Its Own Health Bill

GOP Set to Propose Its Own Health Bill - WSJ.com

It's about time. This is something they should have done a long time ago.

And I'm not saying I would support this, I'm just glad that the GOP is finally doing it's job and drafting legislation instead of just ☺☺☺☺☺ing about the dems plans.

Too little, too late if you ask me.

IIRC, the GOP originally said that the other guy's proposal was bad in the mid 90s. Nice to know they are on-the-ball with a new one.

Of course, it won't include a public option (far less a single-payor solution), and won't mandate coverage, and so will be as bad or worse than nothing.

I think they should just amend the existing Medicare legislation to drop the "at age 65" provision. Everyone 25 to 64 pays a modest premium (no more than, say, 3% of income) which replaces the payroll taxes. Small copays for doctor visits and prescriptions for households earning say $100,000 or more. Simple enough.

If they don't support the expansion of the governments role in health care, why should they be obligated to present an opposing health care bill?

The also oppose a reduction in government's role in healthcare (look at their nay-saying to lowering medicare expenditures), so I guess you are saying they are saying the current system is ideal.

To answer your rhetorical question: because the vast majority of votign Americans want healthcare reform.
