Random Smells?

Have you smelled a random smell and you can't figure out where it is coming from?

Tonight my apartment smells like someone is canning green beans. I can't place the the source of the scent and it is driving me CRAZY! Where is the smell of green beans coming from, damnit!?!?!!?!?

Leaves to investigate again...

In an unrelated note, I also smell things when I get really sick. Back in the spring of 2007 when I had bacterial mono and a viral infection to go along with it, I constantly smelled roast beef. It was really strange. It always smelled good and there was never any roast beef!

My post did not allude to random smelling. It alluded to you smelling random things. You should not go based on the title and more on the actual post.

I'm still more interested in what random smells like than I am interested in anything else that's been said here.

My guitar teacher smelled like coffee, cigarettes, too much deodorant, and a little bit like vanilla. It was a very strange scent.

I don't know. I think I've smelled that somewhere before.

I actually made the UC first, but thought I had better post something just so you would hopefully check it. I've made a lot of UCs over the years and a lot of times they go unnoticed. I'm glad this one didn't.

Gwen, I've had that happen, but not to that extreme an extent. It's bizarre when it happens, because I don't know if it's some sort of (in your words) olfactory hallucination or me actually smelling something that's very similar to something delicious.

Mine were definitely not real. I found out when I went to the ER with that sickness that my fever of 104.2 caused the delusions and olfactory hallucinations. The doctor told me it's not normal and it's not a good sign. Needless to say, I haven't had one since.

I hear that! I've never thought to have mine checked out because they were fairly small and short-lived, so I don't think they were any sort of big deal. That's good to know for next time it happens, though.

Well smelling roast beef in a dorm hall at 10:30 at night is not normal. I asked like five people on my floor just in case someone was making a roast in their room and I wasn't out of my mind. Turns out, that yeah, I was. So once we determined that my fever was that high, my RA took me to the ER. And I told the doctor about smelling roast beef. Which I smelled even in the hospital.

I dunno about you, but roast beef is about one of the last things I'd want to smell in a hospital, particularly if the source were not roast beef at all. I think that'd make me queasy.
