For me, it's a toss up between the thicker and thinner right now. I had purchased the thinner, but was sent one of the thicker ones just to try out. I was pleasantly surprised with that one, so I might end up using it more. I need to experiment some more.

Will do, and thank you very much for that offer.

So what makes vpicks better than say a dunlop or fender pick? I'm curious cause I always thought shape and thickness were all that really mattered.

Most of the time I use Fender mediums, but I'll use thins or heavys for certain songs. If I'm playing a lot of single-note fills and leads on a song, I'll often go to a heavy. If I'm playing my electric through an acoustic simulator patch (not unusual with our set list), I'll sometimes go to a thin.

Since I may be using different picks in a set, I color code them. My mediums are white, heavys are dark, and thins are bright multi-colored. That way I can grab the right pick at a glance.

They are fast. They move quickly on the strings, and they have a different tone.

They are a totally different type of pick than your typical flat pick. I have had to change my style of picking after all these years of playing with medium flatpicks. I've tried to use bone picks too. Another good reason to patronize V picks is that Vinnie is a Christian! Also, check out his CD - there is some good playing there.

This is me too for the most part. Sometimes I'll stray to the next thickness (the green one), but I always get the turtle. They rarely slip out of my hand too.

Interesting... so, mechanically, what makes them different? I'll definitely try them, I'm just curious what in the design makes them better. This thread intrigues me as I've never really given thought to which picks are better than others.

Dunlop .60mm Nylon for acoustic and electric rhythm.

A 2.0mm Stubby when I'm playing lead. This is the SMALL version of the Big Stubby.

After years of trial and error, I finally settled down with Steve Clayton custom pearl acetate 1.26 mm picks. I feel like Goldilocks... this one is juuuuust right.

Steve Clayton Acetal 0.80mm. They glide, last a while, and they'd be perfect if they weren't so easy for my roommates to lose.

Hopeful, wouldn't you say that they feel exceptionally smooth on the strings, and just feel effortless?

I don't know how else to describe them, nor could I tell you why they work. I always discounted them as a gimmick till I saw your post on them, and I was browsing ebay last week and saw a ton of them new with a ridiculous bin on quite an assortment.

I have never been a fan of a pick before, but this could be one of the biggest tone improvements I have had and playing improvements.

This is one of the two items I have bought that actually improved my playing. (The other being a leather strap with a suede back so the guitar doesn't move on my shoulder, unless I move it.)

And as far as gear that can make you a better player... there is not of it out there. And as far as GAS goes, these are pretty cheap. If I was buying full price, I would get red as they are easy to lose.

Wow, they make an 11.85mm pick. I never knew someone would require something greater than 3.0mm.
