| the basic will do you well - the console, and wii fit will provide you with more than enough fun for a long long time.
the only other extras I invested in that I couldn't live without?
extra controller (no brainer, makes Wii tennis fun going head to head)
extra nunchuka (really only for Wii boxing going head to head)
recharging station
the greatest discovery we found on our Wii was that our local public library has Wii games that you can check out for a week. we got lots of junk games as gifts or that looked good but stunk when we played them. trying before you buy is critical, as some of those games are pricey.
the best place I've found to buy? blockbuster's pre-used game bins (sometimes can get buy-1-get-1-free deals). they have a will-play guarantee so u can return the game if it's scratched or won't play.
and as some free tech support - if you have a power outage, don't freak out if your Wii won't start up. unplug all cables and wires from the back of it and let it set for like fifteen minutes, then plug everything back in and it will power up. we wet ourselves the first few times when it appeared to be DOA. and yeah it's only the power cable you have to unplug - but fiddling around there on the back, I finally just got in the habit of unplugging them all instead of trying to turn the thing around and figure out which cable is which.
I don't have an old-school game controller and as such can't play any Nintendo Gamecube games on there - but I've seen lots of those controllers (wired or wireless) in the bargain pre-used bins at Gamestop at the mall for cheap. and our library has TONS of Gamecube games. I just haven't gotten that far yet...
good luck with your new fun family gaming toy! it has really brought our family closer together! |
