| Opening for Phil Keaggy... I'm not sure whether to be super excited or just flat out scared, haha.
Opening for Phil Keagy, Shake Anderson, and JD Blair on Thursday night.
As the lead man for our band said, "I hope they like our personality" haha
wish me luck.

| That is cool, Jonathan. Just keep praising God and you'll do fine. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and talking with him. He is an extremely humble and nice guy. He also played my Strat during a sound check. |

| Wayne- Yeah, I've gotten to chat with him on several occasions, and he is indeed a great guy. He's played with Shake Anderson and the Ascenxion Band at Hulabaloo for Habitat (a local H4H fundraiser) and at Ichthus this last summer. I'm psyched about it and I wish there were some local CGR's to check it out.
For those of you who haven't checked out Shake's Career, he's worked with everyone from Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and The Impressions, to The Indigo Girls, Aliyah, and The Spice Girls.
He is a phenomenal bass player/singer, who can also play guitar and keys I believe, they are quite the duo. And when they're backed up by JD Blair (who's recently been doing a bunch of shows with Vic Wooten) and Daryll Tibs on percussion, it's just awesome.
Honestly, I think I'm more excited just to hear THEM play than to actually play myself.

| Good. Lord.
Man, just SEEING the "Man who taught God how to play guitar" would blow my mind.
But seeing him play in person!
And OPENING for him!!!!
I do indeed hope they like your personality!

#10 | | Registered User | I had to play on the same stage in front of the same people about two hours after Jimmie Vaughan. It didn't help that he played the exact same song I had planned to play. I tried not to think about it, but I did. I have never been so scared to play, in fact my first few gigs weren't nearly as scary. I was actually shaking like some kid on their first gig. I sped the song up to a speed that I could hardly keep up with, and I had to make up several parts when I forgot what I was supposed to play next. And I had picked that song because it was the one that I was most confident I could nail. Luckily, Jimmie Vaughan wasn't there to hear it (or I probably couldn't have done it), and most people just thought that I had played my own version. They didn't realize it was so different because I was so scared. I wish I had a do over, and next time something like that happens I know I'll be able to handle it much better.
So don't get scared and don't even think about it! You're making me nervous when you say that you're nervous.
You're opening for him, so that's even better. You get to sit back and enjoy his show instead of panicking when he starts playing the song you had all ready to go.

| Congratulations. That's quite an accomplishment for you all. I'm pretty sure I would be scared stiff if it were me.

As soon as you notice your hands getting sweaty, block it out of your mind. You're much better off to go in mentally unprepared than to go in freaking out. In my experience at least. Once you're up there and you start playing, if you haven't been freaking out already you can just play like you would alone in your room.

| Don't be nervous. If you were as good or better than Keaggy you would not have got the gig. For that matter there are precious few who do take their guitar playing to his level so you're in good company.
Enjoy the time on stage. Give all the glory to the Lord. Remember who it is you're really playing for. |

| Keep it in perspective. You're both servants of the same Master, and by His yardstick, you and Phil aren't all that far apart.
Just play for your Father and you'll be fine.
