I reached the point of donwsizing..

For two reasons....

One... I need money. Quite badly.

Two... I realized I didn't use half of my board.... at all... and some of the stuff... I only used for very very subtle reasons.

I know a lot of other people here have reached this place... my question... is it all downsizing from here in your experience, or will I eventually head back up?

Once reason one is resolved you'll begin to find new things that don't fall into reason two.

I've been with a medium-big board (6-7 pedals), went to a small board(2-3), went to a PODxtl, and now I'm back to a a medium-big again. Maybe it just depends who you are, but I don't think GAS ever goes away

So in my personal opinion, I believe you'll be headed back up eventually, but then again I guess it really does depend on who you are and what kind of music you play.

Getting rid of GAS always feels great, and when it goes you can DEFINITELY realize why you're glad it's gone; but you'll get GAS again. Everyone gets GAS.

I strongly encourage downsizing. If you think you can part with it, go ahead and do it, especially when you need the money. Sure, you'll miss whatever you let go at first, but then something better will come along. Then you will GAS for a long time and you will be very happy when you finally get it. Then eventually you need money again, you end up selling something else, and on and on and on.

The only pedal I've hung onto consistently is my J&H. It's the only pedal I use every single time I do a show/worship service.

J&H is a great pedal, and probably the only one on my board I can't see replacing. And the guy at the music store told me it was crap... Anyway I agree downsizing is usually a good thing. From what I've seen, people who don't use a pedal very often tend to not sound very good when they do use it. When you use something a lot, you'll take the time to make it sound really good and fit the way you play. When you use something once or twice, you won't be able to make it sound as good and it usually just detracts from your playing.

It's not all downsizing from here. You downsize for a while and then, it becomes about just enjoying playing, and gear doesn't matter anymore. it doesn't matter how much, or little you use, you just use what works and gets the job done.

Personally I've found I downsized in the way you are thinking about. I just started getting rid of the stuff I don't really use and don't really need. I started with guitars. A few years ago I owned:

MIM strat
Hwy 1 Tele
Ernie Ball/Musicman John Petrucci
Gibson ES-137 classic
Line 6 Variax
Fender Esquire
Fender Deluxe Super Strat
Ibanez RG 470
Ibanez RG 7620

Today I only own the MIM strat and Hwy 1 Tele because I realized I didn't need the rest. I haven't bought a guitar in 4 years and still don't feel any desire to buy a new one.

I also started doing the same thing with my pedals. I used to have a huge board with 23 pedals and swore I needed every single one to get my sound. I actually did something crazy with that and ditched every single pedal I owned and started from scratch. I only added back what I found I really needed, and only added them as I found I had a need for them. Today I use a couple different boards for different settings. Each one has 3-4 pedals on it and it works perfect for me.

So....

can anyone think of a reason why I should keep my wah pedal?

Its the standard Vox wah pedal... I just traded with a guy in Desperation Band to get it...

but I've never really used wah on anything... Mighty to Save being literally the only exception I can think of...

I don't know.. I really like this wah.. I just can't find a use for wah pedals in general in the style I play.

So should I get rid of it, or hold on for a while?

My mentality is to hold onto it for a while, but that's probably what has led me to accumulate more pedals than I need. However, unless you really need something or really need the money, what is it hurting to leave it laying? I mean the resale on it whether you get rid of it now or six months in the future isn't going to dramatically change just because you let it sit.

And during that time, if you find a use, you'll be glad you held on to it ...

That's the main thing though, if....I've never found a solid use for some of this stuff yet.

That's the thing though... I need money now. haha

I think I'm going to take it off my board for two weeks.. and if I don't once say to myself "ahh the wah would've sounded sweet right here!" then I'll try to sell it.
