| Mohawk. Getting a point. Is there some kind of trick to getting a point on a mohawk?
Seriously, Ive been trying, and I just cant get it.
Im not certain if its my technique, or if its my hair (I have naturally wavy/curly super stiff hair). Basically, when I put my hair up, the tip kind of pulls away to both sides right at the top. From the side it looks cool, from the front it just looks dorky.
Any ideas?

| This is with gel.
Looking at some of my pics using glue, I had better luck, but there was still a slight pull away near the top in those pics. Ill put those in my blog.
Basically, is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Any ideas? | You can go back more before you comb it up. I found that if I kept mine going back it did okay.
Another thing that helped when I had mine was basically doing my hair with gel twice. First to establish a base and get basically something similar to what you have now, and then working on just getting the top together.
That works relatively easy without using glue. Glue scared me because you have to sleep. I have seen elmers and superglue used in mohawks. Personally the thought of using superglue in your hair just seems like a disaster waiting to happen to me, but on the plus side, it would be waterproof.

| Well, Im using a hair glue, which washes out in seconds if I need it to.
I tried some new Gel this morning, but wasnt impressed. So I tried another hairglue, the results were much better, and I think I have found a tip on the back of a bottle of glue that will assist greatly.
Bill, thanks for the tips, Ill try those aswell.

| I have no experience with mohawks, which might surprise you... ... but it seems to me that having your hair all the same length when it's combed up might contribute to the problem. If the hair on the very top of your head was just a bit shorter, the sides would come up over the middle and meet at the peak. I don't think the problem is your hair or the gel, I think it's the cut. |

| The secret is using knox gelatin. It's unflavored, which will help your hair's natural flavor show, and you will get a nice hold, and really stiff hair. The other often using gelling agent is egg whites. I lean towards the gelatin, though. |

| I helped with getting a mohawk done right for a play in high school. So it was a long time ago, but what I remember doing was using quite a bit of gel, and before the gel dried and it was in the form we wanted it, we'd hairspray like crazy. It was like an instant freeze in the style it needed to be in.
Note: thier mohawk was a good 9 inches though.

| I used to use a combination of super-strong hair glue and hairspray. |

Yes, the secret is in the gel used, I think you will find.
redbaron:
So you went through one of those phases, too?
Ms JFGirl:
I reckon you yourself were always too conservative for a mohawk, though.
Ms Mtlmom:
Sounds like you definitely were, too....

Had to cut mine cause I got sick of getting pulled over under suspicion of stealing my own car.

| I liked having it that long, but it was such a pain in the butt to get it to spike properly that I generally didn't bother. It was easier when I had it cut down to a couple inches. As soon as I don't have an office job (basically, once I go to grad school), I'm getting a mohawk again. |
