| Those pilots are definitely in hot water now... Wonder what on earth happened. |

Sad that's what I think of first... |

| Ha. The 'heated discussion' story is BS...
Pilots falling asleep is what happens when the FAA allows airlines to schedule consecutive 16-hour days... And it likely won't end until blood is spilled. That's just how the FAA operates. |

"I can assure you none of us was asleep," Cole told ABC News. He declined to comment further except to say, "I am not doing very good."
Two grammar errors in as many sentences. Impressive.

Did it happen to go something like this?
Seriously though, If they weren't asleep, then how could that've happened? |

| I read in yesterday's USA Today that in early 2008 the pilots of a flight headed for Hawaii literally fell asleep for at least 18 minutes (amount of time it took to regain contact) while they were on autopilot over the ocean.
Stories like this paint the wrong picture. For every instance of something like this, there are thousands of routine flights without any complications. The pilot-error rate for the airline industry is ridiculously low. Like, ridiculous.
Let's put it this way: if the error-rate for pilots was the same as it was for physicians, we'd have a jumbo-jet crashing every-other day. Overall, I feel safe flying and I think overall the airline industry is incredibly safe and incredibly efficient.

The reason why it gets so much attention is because when an accident does happen, it usually leaves no survivors. |

| The update that I heard was that they were on their personal computers in the cockpit... and air traffic controllers were trying to gain contact with them for an hour and a half..
I work in aviation and yeah.. the pilots made some mistakes and messed up, it sucks that they lost their licenses.. but then again. this was a serious situation because the air traffic controllers had no idea what was going on..
and what if they needed to re-route at the last minute.. there is no way the air traffic controllers would have been able to inform them..
I am just glad that nothing more serious came out of this |
