I keep looking for reasons to be able to buy a different phone than the iPhone... But all these phones seem like they just aren't as good. I think the reason not to buy ultimately is preference to not have an iPhone (mainly cause everyone has one, I haven't seen a single person with the same phone as me, and thats why I like it).

The screen is a much higher resolution than previous android phones. This means if a developer used a low res icon thinking it would be fine because all android phones were a low resolution, they're a little blurry on the Droid. All standard icons (and most of the popular application icons) are Droid resolution. That said, you have to really look to tell the difference on most of them, and as developers update applications this will change. This is basically just because the screen is so gorgeous.

Better than the iPhone?... For me? Yeah probably. For everyone? Probably not. The multimedia stuff is a little lacking on Droid (the music and video players are just OK. they work, but they're not amazing)... There aren't as many of 3rd party apps (games are the hardest hit on Droid). Droid has amazing Google integration (and Facebook stuff as well actually) and an amazing screen (have I mentioned that yet? ). If you're a fan of open source stuff, Droid is a good way to support that. Droid also feels much more solid to me than the iPhone. The physical keyboard is nice too.

They're certainly on the same level as far as smart devices are concerned (and I'd throw the Pre in there with them)... it's just a matter of what will suit you best.

Droid and Android in general definitely have some advantages over iPhone (screen... google integration... keyboard... open source... much more hackable), but whether it's better or not is simply a matter of preference. A lot of users won't find those reasons to buy over the iPhone because the iPhone just suits them better. Others will.

Also, the network is another thing to consider. Some recent surveys show that AT&T has the worst customer satisfaction. Verizon had the best. That will depend on your area though.

I suppose I generally care more about the speed of which the phone does what it is supposed to do. Maybe how well it can surf the internet, and of course the normal things such as texting and calls.

As for networks, the iPhone is available from all 3 of our phone companies in Canada.

Droid has the same processor as the iPhone 3Gs. Most speed tests I've seen have been pretty inconclusive (no clear winner). Web Browsing is pretty much the same (they're based on the same browser). In those two fields, the phones are pretty much identical.
