The screen is a much higher resolution than previous android phones. This means if a developer used a low res icon thinking it would be fine because all android phones were a low resolution, they're a little blurry on the Droid. All standard icons (and most of the popular application icons) are Droid resolution. That said, you have to really look to tell the difference on most of them, and as developers update applications this will change. This is basically just because the screen is so gorgeous.
Better than the iPhone?... For me? Yeah probably. For everyone? Probably not. The multimedia stuff is a little lacking on Droid (the music and video players are just OK. they work, but they're not amazing)... There aren't as many of 3rd party apps (games are the hardest hit on Droid). Droid has amazing Google integration (and Facebook stuff as well actually) and an amazing screen (have I mentioned that yet?

). If you're a fan of open source stuff, Droid is a good way to support that. Droid also feels much more solid to me than the iPhone. The physical keyboard is nice too.
They're certainly on the same level as far as smart devices are concerned (and I'd throw the Pre in there with them)... it's just a matter of what will suit you best.
