Apparently Google and Apple are working to get it on the iPhone too. Makes me a little upset that I dropped $70 on Navigon now.
makes me glad I did't drop $100 on the TomTom or other app. Looking forward to seeing it.

It would be interesting if Google withheld it from Apple and made it an Android only app. It would definitely give them an edge and Apple would pretty much have to respond in some way.

I think they almost have to. It is the smart thing to do, from my perspective.

Release day!

I happened by the mall today and got to check one out. It was definitely pretty awesome. Very quick and fairly intuitive (not quite as much as the iphone, but still very much so). Android 2.0 is very nice. Browser was quick and formatted as expected. There's a very good chance this will be my new phone... I wish the price would come down and/or they get rid of the stupid mail in rebate...

I've heard that if you buy it online, or through Best Buy, you can get it for $200 sans rebate. Or, you can get it a Sears (Yeah, I didn't know Sears sold phones either... :\), for $150 no rebate.

I'm probably still going to go with the Eris instead. Less money and it's htc, which is incredible.

Looks like those were release day deals, but I did find this and it seems to be pretty good. http://www.fatwallet.com/redirect/bo...px?pageid=6438

i bought a Hero this week. Used it for two days and I'm already back on AT&T and the iPhone. Android is good, but not quite there yet. Hopefully future versions and phones will be better.

Droid runs on Android 2.0 which is supposed to be miles ahead of 1.5/1.6 on other Android devices.

Alright... so I've had the Droid for about a week now.

The good: The screen is ridiculously pretty. Seriously. Keyboard isn't as bad as the reviews make it out to be (and I have big hands/fingers).... it takes some getting used to, but it could be much worse, and you always have the option of the touch screen keyboards. Integration with Google is great... same with Facebook contact integration. Android 2.0 is killer. As is Google Navigation. Using it with Google Voice is awesome as well. It's thin, but feels very solid. The slider doesn't feel week and gives a good satisfying click when opened .

The bad: I've had a few minor glitches (some weird scrolling issues crop up when corporate calendar runs, but I seem to be the only person on earth with this problem, and I don't mind it... I don't use exchange so it's not a big deal). Nothing deal breaking though. The picture camera is mediocre, but the video is excellent... I'm hoping the picture thing is a software issue. The pictures turn out decent, but they could be a lot better, and it takes a few shots to get a good, in-focus picture. Multimedia integration could be better if you're looking to use this as your primary media player, but for casual listening and occasional video watching it's fine (awesome if you have some high quality video on that screen).

One oddity... the home screen only rotates to the side when you open the keyboard... the accelerometer works 100% fine in every other application, but for some reason not the home screen.

Battery has been ok, but it's too soon for me to tell this so far.

Bottom line: This thing is awesome. If you're looking for an Android device, I wouldn't hesitate recommending it. It's a really solid phone.

If you want to know anything just let me know.

do you ever find it running extremely slow? I had the Hero for 2 days before I sent it back because it was always running slow.

No, it's really really quick. The Droid has the same processor as the 3Gs and Pre and does a good job of utilizing it. Opening new programs is quick as is navigating menus and scrolling. I've never had an issue where the processor couldn't keep up with what was happening.

One thing that was really impressive was loading Google Maps. In some cases it loaded quicker than it does on my desktop.

I'd definitely check out one in the store if you can.
