| Doh,
I missed that post... in the thread
My coworker and I have been discussing the finer points of this phone today - we're both on AT&T but really considering switching for an Android phone and this looks like it may be the one that hooks us both in. I'm also interested in seeing this Acer Liquid that is slated to come out, but I hear it might be rather generic and that the snapdragon processor might be a lot of hype. |

Motorola 'Calgary' to bring BLUR to Verizon, Droid not looking worried When my contract expires, (provided that the Calgary is real), I think it's a choice between that and the Droid. The Calgary looks to be a lower end model, with a 3 megapixel camera, and hopefully a lower price point. |

| Until the Droid (or any of the other similar phones on the market for that matter) get the same massive amount of Apps that the iPhone has, I won't even consider switching, although I must say, the HTC Hero does look promising--especially the fact that it has multi-touch which, as far as I know, a lot of the other phones besides the iPhone, do not have. Verizon can bash the iPhone all they want to, but the iPhone still does it right in so many areas which is why it continues to be one of the most popular phones on the market. Although it is nice to see that Verizon is finally allowing WiFi on its phone. Now if they could just stop charging a monthly subscription fee for their games and other add-ons....

Some of the apps are way cool too. And it has tons of games. The cool thing about it is that most of the Android apps are free. It's an open source OS meaning development is way easier and way more available to developers than iPhone.
Also if Verizon stopped charging fees for those things they would lose their elite status as the most overpriced carrier in the U.S.
Furthermore, the way Android is made up they wont be able to charge you for those services as they'll all be apps that make all of those things open on the Droid. Seriously, unless they rebrand the ENTIRE OS then they can't change that.

G1 has it but it's not enabled by default (you need an app). Storm has it..
And the Android has about 10,000 apps. Not as much as the iphone sure, but that's a lot and as the platform gains momentum more will come. |

| I don't like the way the phone looks. It looks cheaply made of crappy plastic.

However, in my experience with the Storm, the multi-touch doesn't seem as smooth as the iPhone's....and that was mainly what I was getting at. I've been around several "touch" screen phones (Voyager, Storm, enV Touch etc.) and the touch functionality is just so clunky.
As for apps, that's a hefty number. I do think Android has great potential and I am very much interested in the future of that. However, until it can do for me what the iPhone does (in terms of apps and easy music/video playback) I won't consider switching, and I think a lot of iPhone users feel the same way...although AT&T's lack of 3G in many areas does bother me.
As far as Verizon + Wifi is concerned, I'm not sure how long it's been available on the phones. I just know when I was looking for a new phone with Verizon last year, I wasn't able to find one that had Wifi enabled.

| That makes a lot more sense actually... it seems a little silly that they would license the name from Lucasfilms (likely for a lot of coin) just for a single phone. |

| Android is looking very nice. the only issue I have is that managing my music with the iphone is so easy and I'm not sure I want to give that up. if I can plug it in, start an app to sync my itunes play list, that would be great. |

Engadget just posted their hands-on and a video of the device. Looks really great Motorola DROID first hands-on! (update: video, impressions, more pics) |
