Stargate Universe

Has anyone been watching the brand new Stargate series? I like it so far. It has a different aura than the other ones, but I am just glad they decided to keep the franchise going.

I thought the pilot was at least mildly exciting. I think the character development might be a bit more advanced than the other shows.

I love stargate. I just can't help it. =)

I am hoping that universe will be interesting, but so far it's starting off kind of slow. I'm also kind of irritated that they've felt a need to inject love-interests in already. I mean, with the original...there was always some underlying thing between sam and jack, but it wasn't obvious and it wasn't lame, like this thing with lieutenant whatshisname and the senator's daughter.

it definitely has a way different feel from the original and from atlantis, which isn't necessarily bad, I am just not sure how I will like it yet.

I've tried, but I just can't take it.

On the production front: They just seem to believe "if BSG did it, we should to".

On the character front: they just seem to be, well, intellectualy masterbating. So much time with stupid "confession cam" type stuff. Unneccessairy and ultimately useless charater interaction so over-telegraphed it's not funny.

And then there's the plot. OMG!!!

Let's start with that "can drive a trailer through it" problem with #1. They can interface with alien computer systems and jury-rig refinment equipment for air scrubbers, but they cannot manage to weld a plate over a hole. The also cannot manage to rig something to push a buttin on a delay (or a long stick) nor manage to figure out to use one of the orb things.

But hey: they only have one real scientist right? If only they had some sort of nigh-magical device that would let them switch bodies with people back on earth. Surely the people on Destiny would line up for the chance to be home, and the best ancient technologists on Earth (not to mention Atlantis, which is now on Earth) would be round-the-clock remoted over to Destiny. Right?

Right?

Wonder if they will remember that they are 4 billion light-years from birth-control.

My problem is that they seem so heaped on for their own sake rather than actually useful.

I've always applauded SG-1 for having that chemestry without flaling pray to a romance.

I do like the sets and lighting work on the new show. Unfortunately, I don't like the new show. Then again: I'm not a big fan of Atlantis or the last couple seasons of SG-1 (basically anythign after they got obessed with ascention and the Ori)

And WTH: the ship can get itself in the right solar system on the right trajectory but it can't just drop out actually at the star?

It's a pity that the ancients never developed "basic robotics". They went straight from "nothing", like what is maintaining destiny to super-nanite replicators.

And most of the characters are recycled from Atlantis. We have the dark-skinned violent guy who'se friends with the rugged but loveable farmboy-pilot-protagonist. There's the older but not as physically capable leader, and the nerdy genius, and the girl he fawns over, and the medic feeling overwhelmed. About the only new charater is the mad scientist: and.. well, I feel like Rodney drank Dr.Jeckle's formula to split into the nerdy Rodney and the self-absorbed evil Rodney.

Actually, now that I think of it, why are all the thug-characters black? Ronald, and Ronon, and Tealc, and even Warf.

And really: even with a warship in orbit, they couldn't defend Icarus base from a trio of H'Tak vessels?

yeah...I wondered about the whole birth control/having babies issue. there are just a lot of problems with the show. I will probably keep watching it anyways, but nothing will ever be like the original!
