Left 4 Dead 2

Anyone else really anticipating this game?

Definitely going to buy as soon as I can after it comes out. If it's as good as the original (and it look like it's going to be), it'll be worth every cent. I just hope they have more campaigns on it than the first one came with.

I'll be buying it too probably. I know a good number of people are boycotting it because it is coming out so soon after the first one though. I believe there are five campaigns on this one. I wonder though if the added weapons and complexities will make it less enjoyable than the first? I enjoyed the simplicity of the original.

I was quite skeptical about it when I first heard about it back at E3. It really felt like a quick cash in. But now I'm getting the vibe that they're making the game they wanted to make the first time around.

The most exciting thing for me are definitely the new infected, though. Pretty excited to see what they do level wise, too. All I've heard about so far is that Dark Carnival level (which I understand is quite good).

Definitely wish it had the original survivors. Still not feeling the new ones yet.

I still need to pay Left 4 Dead. Dead Rising was such a disappointment to me.

Haha I traded in Dead Rising to help me buy Left 4 Dead. I'd actually like to see some sort of compromise between the two in a game.

The changes look mostly good, except I'd also like to see them keep the original characters.

Having played both, that's not a very even comparison. Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead are rather different in style. Where Dead Rising fails in making enough fun in killing zombies, Left 4 Dead succeeds stunningly. The biggest problem I have with Left 4 Dead is that it's a little short, but it does have great replay value (with co-op, anyway. Single player isn't that great). The world isn't as big as Dead Rising's, but the controls are way better, and what it does have is put together fantastically. While I'd only give Dead rising a 3 or 4 out of 10, Left 4 Dead gets at least an 8 or a 9.

So I saw this trailer and pre-ordered L4D2 immediately afterwards.

YouTube - Leaked Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer - Zombie Survival Guide

As a sidenote, if you preorder now on PC (not sure about 360), you get early access to the demo (which happens to be opening up tomorrow for early access).

Will post impressions about it tomorrow.

That's true of the 360 version as well.

My only real problem with Dead Rising were the controls, I stopped playing because I didn't feel like having to learn how to aim my cross-hair when aiming guns with the right stick. Why on earth would they make the camera controlled by the left stick when aiming and guns with the right stick?

It's worth at least $35 sir.

I love how tough the achievements are in this game too. Valve will not hand out points easily.

No... I still have yet to kill a witch in one headshot. I'm almost convinced it can't be done.

That one really aggravated me. Then I just decided to try it at one point and somehow got it.

Shotgun, No Mercy, Subway, Easy. Walk right up to her and fire one as she's getting up.

Exactly. It's very important that it's done on easy because that affects how many hit points the witch has.

Also I'd say it's easier with the auto shotgun for some reason. I know you're only using one shot but I think it's more powerful or something.

So first impressions of L4D2 demo in bullet point format.
  • It's Left 4 Dead
  • Melee Weapons (especially the guitar) are pretty awesome, and never "die" like Dead Rising's weapons do
  • New special infected really kind of keep you on your toes a bit more. Haven't learned how to deal with them quickly just yet, but I'm sure that'll come with time. Also, the Witch is roving during daytime, so that's doubly terrifying. Also, I initially thought the Spitter would be the most annoying new infected. Turns out that title so far goes to the Charger.
  • The Uncommon infected are a nice touch, as well. Little bit harder to kill than your average zombie.
  • GORE! Way more gore this time around. Everything you shoot seems to splat and dismember in some way. I'm sure they can explain why everything is way bloodier in the fiction with the infection being fresh and all.
  • More guns and grenades. More healing items as well.
  • Wall scribblings in the safehouses are still fantastically written and serve to flesh out the universe.
  • As much as I want the old characters back, I think Ellis is gonna be my main man in this game. He's pretty rad.
  • Everything in the game just looks better. The graphical update they did is very noticeable.
