I need to stop looking for gear...

As I keep buying it

Just a few minutes ago I purchased both a Danaletro Tuna Melt and Cool Cat Chorus (the old one) and got both together for $55. I"m rather freaking stoked about these. I've read and heard great things about both, and I think I'm finally done buying stuff. I'll do a mini review when I get them.

I am a recovering Gear Head myself. I used to buy more stuff to compensate for my weak playing. No purchase can out do time spent playing the guitar. It's by far the best investment. Good players can make crummy guitars sound great. the best players like Clapton and SRV used very little gear.

But a lot of the "best" players today do use a lot of pedals. haha

Congrats on even more pedals. They are both nice.. but they do suck tone. At this point, since you've got a decent sized chain, I would really suggest running your Jekyll and Hyde first, for the buffer.

I've been seriously considering that, especially since I'm planning on taking the wah out of the chain since I don't use it enough in everyday playing and it just sucks too much tone. Maybe down the road I'll get it modded or something but right now it's just not workin'.

Why especially? If you run the Jekyll before your wah, the tonesuck shouldn't be a problem.

I guess I never really thought of that... But the other reason is the pedal itself when I rock it is EXTREMELY squeeky which I don't doubt is an easy fix, I just don't have the stuff to make it un-squeeky at this moment

WD-40? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by squeeky.. the pedal itself, or the sound?

The question is whether you want your distortion first in your effects chain. Your wah will sound much different with distortion placed before it, and you won't be able to stack the FD2 and J&H together if the FD2 is placed after the J&H (well you could, but it won't sound good). The FD2 stacks very well when placed before another pedal, but really bad when it's second IMO.

Also if you ever want to mod your cry baby for true bypass and removing the buffer its an incredibly simple thing to do! I've done it before and it makes a huge difference and takes about 5 minutes.

Either way though, Crybaby True-Bypassed or not, I would still say a buffer at the front of your chain is a must. The Dano pedals suck tone too.

Well, the cry baby does have a buffer. Besides, it's going to sound better to not have a buffer first then to have a pedal out of place so it doesn't work the way you want it to in the chain

I never kept my Cool Cat Chorus in my chain long, but I never feel like I'm losing tone because of my Tuna Melt.

I've read quite a bit and more reviews than not are saying that it is one of the more transparent tremelos out there.

And by squeeky I mean when I more it the metal is making squeeky noises and all I need is WD-40 but alas I don't have any right now. But after all this talk, I think I'm going to to just ditch the wah anyways, as I really don't use it enough, and if I do need it I'll be able to deal with the tone suckage, as I really want the fulldrive before the J&H. There are a lot of pedals to suck the tone, but I really don't think it'll be that bad.

Just FYI, but IIRC, you don't ever use wd-40 on a wah. I forget what it eats, but it messes up something in wahs. I'd look it up, I forget what lubrications are safe. ALWAYS check that with electronics and pedals before you go spraying wd-40 on the squeaky parts.

Thankyou sir. I would have not even thought of that.
