When it says "Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30 Only" in bold letters on the oil cap, I find it kinda hard to miss the point...

There was a lady that called into a local garage asking her mechanic what the 710 button did. The mechanic was baffled, and after reaffirming that the button was definitely under the hood of her car and somewhere near where she thought the engine was, had her drive in. She arrived and opened the hood. The mechanic saw the 710 button and almost died laughing. Try flipping OIL upside down sometime.

Yeah, but if you reverse the rolls and it turns out the tech is the one thinking it's a 710 button...yeah well that's just scary.

The point being if one guy screws up, it does not mean that everyone at all GM dealers are idiots.

I disagree... If I take my car in to a quick lube place (never gonna happen I have heard of multiple BMW guys coming out sans body panels) and they fill it up with the wrong oil, then I would have to write it off to the fact that they cant possibly know the oil specs of every car on the road (that being said I would imagine that there is a book or something for them to reference).

If I take my car to the dealer, I expect the tech (an employee of said car company) to know the servicing requirements of his own company's product line. The dealerships always flaunt how their techs are certified by the company. This is a double-edged sword, if a tech filled my car with the wrong oil at the dealer I would be mighty pissed...and in my eyes it would be a reflection on the company as a whole because of the training that he supposedly went through. If a tech can't follow a simple procedure outlined in a repair manual, then I don't want him, or anyone else who was trained by the person who found him competant anywhere near my car.

gtrdave is right, but it does reflect back on the the company as a whole. One deadbeat dealer can sour the reputation of those around him. A poor dealership experience raises doubt about the rest.

my oh my this is definitely not on topic anymore...

5th gear feels fine now, but 1st gear felt weird yesterday... it felt fine today. My bro said 3rd had felt a little weird too, but it doesn't anymore. I think we should take it in and get it look at, but my dad's car isn't working (needs a new fuel pump) and my uncle has my car so we cant have the Aveo in the shop right now.

Any ideas on why the problem seems to be moving around? It doesn't make sense to me.

Another thought: How good is your brother at driving stick?

Back when I had a Civic, I thought 2nd was going bad on me. Every so often is just would not go into gear.

Turns out I was letting the clutch out a hair too soon. Adjusted my driving, never had a problem again. Problem was that in trying to shift quickly I'd mess up my form.

On the Sky it's a non-issue. Boy do I love truck transmissions, so much more feel.

Define "pretty good." I certainly would have said I was pretty good at the time. IMO it takes a few years to get really good.

Still, it's worth shifting the slow way for a while to see if that helps. Clutch all the way in, change gears, clutch all the way out. No slipping/fancy footwork to get it done faster.

This sounds pretty feasible.

I suppose... he has only been driving a tick for like 6 months and I have only been driving a stick since we got the Aveo.

Still even my dad has had a few issues occasionally and I know he can drive a stick really well.

I suppose there could be a dead kitten in the gear box that gets alternately wound around the fifth, second and first gear-sets.
