| you can still get full size ford & dodge trucks with diesel and a 6 speed manual, for what it's worth. Chevy offers manuals on most of their trucks EXCEPT duramaxes, and generally the nicer the option package, the harder it is to get a manual, though honestly, if I were going to have a truck with an automatic, the duramax/allison combination is AWESOME, and would be totally acceptable.

| in anything? really? You should probably stop talking to whoever keeps telling you this.
Cars available from Chevrolet with a manual:
Aveo
Cobalt
Corvette (ZR1 is Manual only in fact)
Camaro
etc
etc
etc
you can always look at Chevrolet.com to get the facts.

| See, this is why GM is having issues. Until their dealers start to understand what is really going on the company is in trouble. The Solstice/Sky community regularly finds out that the vehicle owners know more about the cars than the technicians.
The cars they build are fine, and as good or better than any Japanese car. However, their dealer networks suck. Hendrick-owned shops are the only ones I consistently hear good things about, but Rick Hendrick takes interest in having a quality dealership, not just making a quick buck.

| Honda dealers don't know crap either. I've had a ton of uneducated sales people tell me that all a Civic needs is an air intake and an exhaust to beat anything on the road.

| But how was their service department?
When a GM dealership fails to fill a car with synthetic oil, as required by the warranty, well that's an epic fail. No, this did not happen to me. I do all the maintenance myself. However, it is a pretty common occourance.

| I'm pretty involved in a few Sky/Solstice boards, and this has happened to several well-respected members throughout the country. Most cases were discovered when an owner noticed that they were undercharged for oil. Mobil 1 is about $7 a quart at wally world, and when you see $3/quart on your receipt from a dealer something is up.
There are also horror stories about cracked body panels due to improper lifting, as well as several other things our cars are picky about. It's a more touchy car than say a malibu or a silverado, but GM wrote up procedures to cover that.
However, they are not always followed. Perhaps this is not a problem exclusive to GM, but IMO if they want to recover they need to fight issues like this and start building a stellar reputation.
That being said, I can think of several dealerships that still go out of their way to help customers.

| I honestly don't care about Dealer services. It's like worrying about whether IBM will release decent software for my IBM laptop. Who cares where it comes from if it 1.) works and 2.)is cheap.

| Well, there's a little thing called warranty work...If my rear diff dies, (A common problem with earlier Kappas) it would be cool if they didn't destroy the car installing the new one...

| Agreed. In that case, I vote we get to Mad Max approach dealerships (sawed off shotgun, electric clutched superchargers, and if their car tips over I get all their fuel). They become either stronger in the process or dead.

And sometimes the cause is a genuine mistake while other times it's plain ignorance.
If one guy uses the wrong oil in 1 car, this does not make the dealership an evil entity. |
