I know that only a few select Ford full-size trucks come with sticks now, any F-150 is not one of them. They're still an option for the Rangers though...

The problem with this Aveo is that it doesn't have a turbo on it. That fix alone would have saved the 5th gear synchro.

5th gear is harder on our '98 Civic as well. In ours you need to punch the clutch all the way in and have a good # of RPMs going to even think about it. Of course, that Civic has 366,000 kilometres on it.

Your Civic needs a clutch replacement, master/slave cylinder replacement or bleeding, or cable adjustment.

Too bad that Aveo never got a turbo. You wouldn't even need 5th gear with all the boost.

I can only imagine how well the synchros would hold up with more power. Let alone the factory clutch, half-shafts, etcetera.

which is why I told him not to do it... I have a friend who has a really nice '98 Mustang that he has modded. I would rather do something like that.

sorry to go off topic, but...

He put in a beefy V8 (I cant remember what size) running 6lbs of boost and a high performance automatic transmission. He is putting in a 6 speed manual racing transmission and replacing the turbo with a high performance supercharger sometime in the next month or so. There was other stuff, but I cant remember it all.

He's only spent like 3k on it though and it's only about 100$/month insurance (it was originally a 4.0 V6... is that even legal to not report that???) and it's super quick.

I would rather have a Camaro or an '80s Mustang to work with though...

[/off topic]

For some reason 5th gear seems normal again. That actually make me even more worried.

thoughts?

I've inserted numbers into your quote to ease response:
1. Why would he go from a turbo to a supercharger? What does a racing transmission do? Where can I find one?
2. His insurance company doesn't care. They are interested in numbers, and even if he could convince them that his mustang is now mad tyte yo!!! they'd only have miles of paperwork that they don't care to do.
3. Why is that? Price tag? Looks?

not sure why, but he is.

I believe it's a just a high stall torque converter, and a 6 speed auto with lower gear ratios.

Looks... I dont like the Camaros or Mustangs from the '90s too much... they remind me of the Chrysler Sebring

So, if I'm reading this correct, your buddy has told you that a racing transmission has lower gears than a street transmission?
