| Toothpaste. I'm 100% serious. Just take a damp cloth put a little toothpaste on it and gently rub the cd in a circular motion. It totally works. Because toothpaste is a minor abrasive. Well, I guess you don't need to know WHY it works...but it does work. Good luck! |

#3 | | NO | Well first hold it up to the light. Do you see little pinholes of light coming through? No? Good. Yes? Bad. If you see pinholes that means that the data in that one are is gone.
And for the scratches, toothpaste does work pretty well. Just google it.
Or you might try taking it to a record shop (if there are still any in your town) and see if they offer a service. Usually costs no more than 5 bucks. At the record shop I worked at we would send them off to a former employee who had these big wet-sander lookin' thingys and he would shave off a few layers of the coating that got out most scratches (except for the uber-deep ones). Also we had this ghetto sander in the back of the store that worked pretty well on light/medium scratches. It was just a drill with a cloth buffer attached to it. Had to be careful though. The CDs would get really hot (hot enough that I got burned by them a couple of times) and sometimes warp.
Let me just say this though, I am in no way suggesting gong out and buying a buffer and go to town on them. If you go that rout, research it a bit first. |

#15 | | Registered User | the manage attachment button isn't in the quick reply. Hit "Go Advanced" and then hit the little paperclip in the toolbar. |
