I prefer to keep politics out of Religion, I know good Christians on both sides of the political spectrum. To pick and choose portions of the Bible and come up with your own translation that supports your political views is just ignorance at it's highest level. That being said there are enough people out there who will fall for it and gobble it up, hook line and sinker. I'm not saying your religious views shouldn't be a factor in political decisions, but it doesn't work the other way around. Your politics should not have an effect on your religious views. As far as the pledge of allegiance in Church's goes, I've never seen that, but would not consider it a good thing to do. As far as flags in church I'm not a big fan of the idea, but if displayed in a way that isn't predominant I can live with it, because as Americans I believe God has given us much to be thankful for and our flag symbolizes that.

I suspect that they will be locking the wiki soon. Colbert made some suggestions.

And conservative Christians say atheists don't respect the bible!

I would certainly never bowdlerize a work of literature to suit my political tastes; that's blasphemous.

Well these issues of respect and editring aren't reserved to just conservative Christians. People from all flavors of persuasion will cannibalize scripture to suit them instead of allowing God to transform them to conform to HIs word.

Yes, the NIV is terrible.
What's wrong with it?

Sorry Eggbertx. This thread is mostly dead and is unlikely to get the response you want. If you are after more information on what Nate meant re saying the NIV is terrible I'd either private message him or start a thread in theology asking about what errors there are in the NIV.

Thanks mate.
