| acoustic electric I am considering purchasing an acoustic electric for my son. He currently has a Wallace acoustic, a fender American made strat, and a 1960 reissue Les Paul. I want an instrument that he can use for a life time. He is playing piano, cello, and guitar. He is playing in the youth band at church and has filled in for the adult band on Sunday mornings a couple of times and had to borrow an acousic electric. Any ideas on what brand, models, etc. He is an excellent guitarist and will be playing rhythm in the adult band for a while. Any tips or suggestions will be appreciated. |

| What is your price range?
We can more than likely give you good suggestions on just about every budget as long as it's not like "I don't want to spend more than a hundred bucks"

| For less than a grand, you can get him a Tacoma RM6C Roadking. Its quality is superb, and they play really well. I've had one for several years, and it's also very durable. I'd personally rank it up there with Taylors and Martins any day . |

| Sounds like a road trip to me. Guitarists develop certain tastes after a while. Figure out a budget that you can work with and spend some time guitar shopping. Just remember that a pickup can be added to any acoustic. A K&K Mini or Pure is a simple addition. Have you considered a custom builder?
If it's a lifetime investment... http://www.hodgesguitars.com/index.html or http://www.polingguitars.com/ would be somewhere on the top of my list. I really wouldn't mind having a Poling dread one of these days.

| It depends on what sound he wants and what your price range is.
Under $500:
For a full, Gibson-like sound, go for a Takamine (Japanese Guitar). For a brighter sound, go for an Art & Lutherie (Canadian guitar)
But if you can spend more, Larivees are better than Takamines and Taylors are better than Art & Lutheries |

| Mmm. Giving us a price range would really help us in helping you give you a more better answer. But from your post it seems as if price isnt really an issue. I recommend checking out larrivee guitars. The electronics are done by LR Baggs so you can be assured that you will get quality products. And you should check out the art work done by Larrivee's wife it is really beautiful. I also recommend breedlove as well.
Let us know what happens with the situation

| I am partial to Breedlove... but i presently own a Takamine EAN15C. The new version is teh TAN15C and runs about $1600 new. when I found this guitar, I walked into the shop with $1500 looking for a Taylor (was 2003)...found this guitar was killing taylors at $300-$400 less. That was when i was doing more worship and less metal. I think the key to my taste is rosewood back and sides, with cedar top....
So in short...love my takamine and would highly recomend....on a side note, the TAN15c has teh cooltubes preamp that puts a 12AX7 inside the guitar...not sure hwo well this works but seems a little overkill to me. |
