Guitars for Vets

Does anyone know if this is a legit thing? I'd love to send some $$ their way if it is.

It seems to me, that if it were legit, D'Addario and other sponsors would mention it somewhere on their sites.

That's a good point. I'll check that out.

Not finding them on the sponsors pages, but I've found a couple of write ups in veteran's sites.

Interesting though... that there are benevolence foundations within some of the various guitar sites...

It's probably legit. If you want to get the most bang for your buck donating to that cause, go to a VA hospital some time and talk to a social worker. Be prepared to have your heart torn out. I'm sure there are a few folks there who would be happy to have an instrument, maybe a bit of jamming, mostly contact with the outside world.

Same goes for VA outpatient clinics as well but the hospitals are something else.

I would guess it's entirely legit. They do have their 501(c)3 status. It looks like it's a fairly new organization so that might explain the lack of info on their sponsors pages. They are likely providing small ammounts of support at the beginning and I'm sure they have a lot of different organizations they support and not all of them end up on their web pages.

It's definitely a cool idea! I wonder why the ways they mention to give and get involved are only about giving money or instruments. Who is teaching the lessons? It seems like that one on one time teaching is what would be the biggest part of the whole deal... Why not give people the chance to visit veterans and teach lessons through the program?

I've heard of them before.

here we seem to throw Vets in jail (10% of the prison population according to the news this morning) rather than try to integrate them into Civvy st.

I would think if you lived near a VA, you could probably contact them and set something up.

Found this for deployed military troops.

Both of these organizations are such a cool idea. I'm definately consider doing something like this.

I'm a VET and an American Legion Member and in my opinion if you want to help an injured VET out there are other charities with higher causes to dedicate to. 2 cents worth.
