| Ars Technica gave it a negative review and some folks were pissed. I guess that's bound to happen with a series as huge as Halo.
Personally I'm not a Halo fan so I have no idea what to make of the hullabaloo. You seem to know what you're talking about so I'll wait til you play it and let us know if the claims of "$60 expansion pack" are crap or not.

| I got it...not playing until the weekend. Tests a plenty this week.
But I'm far more curious than I am excited. We'll see how it goes. |

| I think most of the allure of Halo is playing as Master Chief, but this will probably be okay if not fairly good. Having to get used to a whole different health system should be interesting.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal". |

| It's really putting into perspective for me just how powerful Master Chief was...grunts are kind of a big deal on heroic. Getting flanked...has never been easier. And if they get in your face you can't rely on MC's super punch to crush a Brute's skull. It's much more intense. |

| Also this easily has my favorite soundtrack of any Halo game.
Possibly any game. |

| I've played through a bit of the story and I've been surprised so far. Non linear story telling and a great soundtrack have made it more enjoyable than playing through Halo 3's story. Worth $60? Probably not, but I don't own Halo 3, so this was a great way for me to get in on the multiplayer action and play a new game.

IMPORTANT:
If you didn't know, there is no matchmaking for firefight. So unless you have friends you know will play with you, that may be a deal breaker.
That said....if you play Halo at all, you'll probably have some friends playing firefight. And if you don't play halo....well....it's conveniently included.
And the new maps are excellent. Notably Longshore. One of the best CTF maps ever. I don't even like CTF and I enjoy it there. |

| Bought this today and have played through a few levels. I like it so far. Great sound track, and it seems somewhat more sporting when you aren't a super-human cyborg. Playing on normal, I put a few rounds into a hunter and then ran up and slugged him (my normal strategy). He slugged me back and then killed me with his green-blob-of-death gun. Not the reaction I was expecting. Fun.

| Finally borrowed this from someone. I enjoyed the campaign, but there are a couple problems. The obvious one is the annoying beep from low health, which is even worse when you sometimes have to walk quite a ways to find health (relating to my other problem of having to walk long ways while little happens).
The other thing is that the ODSTs can apparently do almost everything Master Chief can. I didn't notice any change in melee strength, you can rip off turrets just like H3, and also jump seemingly almost as high. I like having similar abilities, but it doesn't seem realistic.

| But there is a fall penalty, so you can't jump carelessly. I'm getting excited for the reach Beta. |

| ODST is still my favorite of the series. Good game play, music, and probably the best story.
I guess I did notice a difference in the melee strength. Maybe not on easy or normal, but past that your melee doesn't do much unless you sneak up behind an enemy.
