| Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Yes, you heard right. A new sequel has been announced. However, due to some of the news popping up about this, it sounds as though this film will be a bit different than the past two sequels.
So far, only Johnny Depp is the only actor signed on to reprise his role (apparently, he didn't think twice about the offer, as he deeply loves playing the role of Jack Sparrow). And from comments made already by the actors, it doesn't appear as though Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley will be returning (Bloom actually said that he feels that their characters' respective arcs have been pretty well completed and that there's no need for them to come back at this point). But according to this link, ( Will ‘Pirates 4’ Find The Fountain Of Youth? MTV Movies Blog ), Geoffrey Rush has expressed interest in reprising the role of Captain Barbossa. And if the story is like what is being rumored, his return will be essential. Also, Gore Verbinski, the director of the original trilogy, has decided to pass on this as director and Rob Marshall (the director of Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, and the upcoming musical Nine) is currently signed on as the director of the film.
Apparently, the name "on stranger tides" comes from a 1988 novel involving pirates that the makers of the film franchise seem to have claimed rights to. And if they wind up being in any way faithful to the novel, we could very likely see Sparrow and Barbossa racing each other to the Fountain of Youth, and it's entirely possible we could see the two of them facing off against Blackbeard on that quest. It also sounds as though, if the rumors I've heard are correct, the story will be more character-driven than the last two have been, which I will definitely welcome because I'd definitely enjoy seeing the characters of Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa deepen even further.
Also, despite the fact that the film is only in the early stages of production, a release date has already been made for July of 2011.
What do you guys think? Would this be a welcome addition to the franchise for you guys?

| I was completely ready to say I'm done with these movies, but with the chance of the story getting back to Jack Sparrow and Barbossa, I don't know. I think I'd be down for more Pirates.
(Incidentally... part of the reason I think the first one is so enjoyable to me is because they don't waste tons of time developing characters that no one cares about. Also, because it's the only complete movie, but that's another story) |

I really hope that it doesn't happen, but if it does, I hope they handle it better than they handled the last one.
However, if they keep it more scaled back like I've heard and focus more on the character development instead of non-stop action and adventure and CGI (while keeping plenty of elements of the latter), I'll be an extremely happy viewer.

| Sounds better than the last two. I don't really mind either Bloom or Knightley as actors, but their characters got pretty annoying in both of them. Just Sparrow and Barbossa sounds great.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal". |

However, regardless of their ability, the characters they were assigned were a bit too two-dimensional for me. Sparrow and Barbossa were really the only two characters with any sort of depth and Depp and Rush's performances were relentlessly fun to watch. And if we can see those characters develop even more in this new movie, then I am all for it.

| I LOVED the first one, and hated the two piles of garbage that followed. I, like Mike, was totally through with Pirates, outside of the Disneyland ride.
But if this is true... they may have sucked me back in. |

| I'm convinced the third one was a game of "Mad Libs" gone horribly long. I'm willing to treat it much like I treat Rocky V, if they can make a decent fourth movie. |

| I didn't mind the first one, hated the second, and only got ten minutes into the third.
I very likely won't bother watching this one at all, although it does sound a little better I guess. I think Johnny Depp is putting a bad name on himself by going this far in a crappy series of movies.

| The first one was so good because the characters were so interesting to watch, regardless of whether or not their adventure was the biggest or wildest one to hit the silver screen or not. The second and third movies however thought the audience liked the movies for their cgi and action, which is not true at all. If they stick to the format of the first movie it could be good. Having said that though I think that Jack Sparrow might have only been so good in the first one because we had never seen a pirate act like that before. Seeing it again and again takes away from that and makes the character less interesting to watch. |

| I think this actually has a chance to be good... although I highly doubt it will be as good as the first one...

| Wow this sounds cool.
I hope the fourth movie doesn't wind up being like Cutthroat Island or *gulp* a pirate version of Batman and Robin.
