New Ampegs

How do you guys feel about new Ampeg amps?
I play lots with a vintage (early 70s, I think) SVT into a 8x10 re-issue and love it to death, but so far nothing else current from them I've played I really liked, with the exception of the Classic and the VR, which are pretty nice but not exactly what I want.

But last week I plugged in a SVT-4Pro and was blown away! Anybody use one?

Also, if there a big tone difference between the SVT-4Pro and the SVT-2Pro?

I haven't used either but I would expect there to be a tonal difference between the SVT4 and the SVT2, the latter being a hybrid amp and the former being an all tube amp. The SVT4 looks like it's designed to have a lot more clean headroom, whereas the SVT2, while 300W, still may display some of the characteristic qualities of an all-tube bass amp.

nice...if

Those SVT4's are nice if you can afford it.

I have a B2R and love the tone, but needed more power. I discovered that the cab makes all the difference. I was using an 8 ohm Hartke cab with 1 15 and 2 8's. I had to run the gain on 5 and the master on 10 to get it to kick.

But then I tried a 4 ohm Mesa/Boogie cab with 2 15's and whoah, Nelly! It now utilizes all of the 350 watts where an 8 ohm cab would only use 200. Now, with the gain on 4 and the master on 3, it will blow your doors off. I can't see the need to go with anything more powerful than this. No soundman would have it and you'd blow your bandmates off the stage being much louder.

I love this thing! It gets the fat low end AND the mid punch w/ high end clarity. Good speakers make all the difference, too. These are 600 watt EV's. I tried a Kustom 15" and it sounded terrible.
