digitech death metal/marshall jackhammer/digitech rp55/zoom g1x

I have a marshall mg15dfx, and an epi les paul.
I am looking to buy a pedal, and am mainly looking at these 4, I am mainly looking for a distortion pedal, but am also welcome to multi-effects. I play alot of metalcore, but also play alot of lighter stuff like paramore or emery. what pedal best suits my needs?
I have never bought a pedal before, and am slightly confused at how they work. Anyone want to explain?
Thanks,
Ømr7Ø

The only effect here I can speak for is the g1x.
Get it.
I love this pedal, once you get past the sorta weird interface, it's actually pretty easy to use.

First of all, I would reccomend a new amp over a pedal first. In a lower budget range, the blackstar 5 watter might be a good choice. It is dual channel and should get you a better distortion than any pedal you listed.

What do you not understand about pedals?

unfortunately, thats quite alot over my price range.
My max. price is 170, so that's why I thought a pedal would be best.
What do you know about epi valve jr half stacks?

Fairly limited and not the sound you would like for metal. Much bluesier. I like me a blackheart little giant as a small amp for pedals, and I have owned both.

However, your amp is going to limit your sound.

I really would suggest saving for the blackstar or going with the blackheart. Combos are often a little easier to deal with than stacks.

In my opinion I'd stay away from both of those amps, but ultimately it's your decision. I say wait it out and find a used Peavey Bandit. You should be able to find one for around $200 in good shape and it'll be better than those amps you asked about. Granted, it will not have as many cool toys as the Spider, but it'll be an all around better amp.

thanks, I'll keep my eyes open, and with that amp, I won't need any pedals?

It's a two-channel amp with two voicings for the clean channel and three for the gain channel. With the footswitch (which many will have) it'll allow you to switch between a clean and dirty channel. As far as pedals, I wouldn't think so, but I don't play metalcore or whatever you're going after. It can do a modern rock and classic rock very well.

get neither of those.

The blackstar at 299 or less on ebay would be a better choice.
