| Bands that you've been in and bands that you'd like to be in. As a just recently active member here, I thought I'd have some fun posting this as an excuse to describe my fantisies.
Here's a thread to list all bands that you've been in, describe each one's musical style, and tell what each member did in them...
and...
to list all the bands you'd like to be in, describe each ones musical styles and tell what each member did in them...
At this point I've been in no bands, so I'm skipping to my fantises.
1st Fantasy-
Style Of Music: Pretty diverse. It would be sort of prog rock that sounds pretty classic and has some metal and alternative elements as well.
Me - Electric and Acoustic Violin, Harmonica Backing Vocals
2nd Member - Lead Vocals and Bass.
3rd Member - Guitars and backing vocals.
4th Member - Drums
2nd Fantasy
Style Of Music: A bit like Pink Floyd. Tempo and dynamic changes little throughout the songs. Lyrics are about bizzare, beautiful, and poetic experiances, places, and states of being. Reverb and delay effects are used a lot on all instruments including voice. A significant use of samples, tape loops*, and what I'm going to call "cut in samples" (I'm sure there's a real word for it but I don't know it) It's meant to sound very engulfing, even intoxicating.
Me - Lead Vocals and Bass
2nd Member - Keyboards, Tape Loops
3rd Member - Guitar, Backing Vocals
4th Member - Drums, Sample and Cut-in trigger pads.
3rd Fantasy
Style Of Music: Grunge with a bit of rapping, but civilazed rapping, not rapping like a gangsta who was dropped on his head. The use of soft-loud-soft-loud tension is very common. Vocals change a lot between regular singing, yelling, and rapping. Lyrics are about frustration, confusion, fear, and anxiety but sometimes with a twist of truimph or cockiness.
Me - Vocals and Bass
2nd Member - Guitar, Backing Vocals
3rd Member - Drums, Backing Vocals
4th Fantasy
Style Of Music: Upbeat yet hardcore and sometimes very low pitched. The band has two seven string guitarists and a five string bassist. The band rarley has a guitarist playing chords. Usually the guitarists and bassist are all playing something fast and complex with incredible technique and knowladge of theroy. The lyrics don't mean much and the singing isn't promenent since the instrumental parts are often long. The singer can sing pretty low though to complement the extra strings but he can go as high as your avarage pro singer. The Drums are barley noticed. Improvisation is common at concerts.
Me - Guitar
2nd Member - Guitar
3rd Member - Bass
4th Member - Vocals
5th Member - Drums
You might be wondering why the singer and bassist are one person in three of my four fantasies. Well I figure that in bands where the bass is only used as a foundation and extra driving force that it makes sense for the singer to play bass, or the bassist to sing, however you want to look at it.
Anyway, thats my 2 cents. |

| I'll form a band entitled 'katerlol.' Our lyrics will consist entirely of newbspeak, and our chords will remain exactly the same from song to song. |

| I'd love to be in a band like Thrice, only gone in a different direction then they did. Like gone a bit more hard-core after vheissu.

#7 | | Algebraic! | I'm currently in my fourth band.
My first band was in high school and we recorded a couple tracks but never did anything with them. We were called ml trent. I played guitar and we also had a drummer, keyboardist/vocal and another guy who also sang.
Second band was Harry Backman. Simply described as pop-punk. We played a couple shows and recorded here and there. I have a bunch of the recordings on my computer still actually. I played guitar adn we also had another guitarist/vocal, bassist and drummer.
Third band was Your Favorite Band. Never really figured out how to describe our sound. I always felt like we straddled some sort of line between punk and alternative. I played bass and did background vocals. We also had a guitar/vocal and a drummer.
My current band is The Morning Glass. I play guitar. We also have a bass player, a guitar/vocal and a drummer/bgv. I would describe our sound as indie-rock influenced rock. Once again, I can't seem to think of any bands that I feel like we quite sound like.
As far as bands I'd like to be in...I don't really think about it much. I would probably say Thrice as well, except I like the direction they've taken since Vheissu. I'd probably also say Brandtson. |

| I've never been in a band (other than like church worship bands), but I would like to be in a a melo-death metal band that has some brutal black metal implements... kinda like Amon Amarth+Arsis+Behemoth musically and like Black Dahlia Murder+Heaven Shall Burn for vocals and lyrics...
I would do bass and low screaming parts. Also if there was a random keyboard part I would do it.

#10 | | NO | Right now I'm the acoustic guitar player for "Bob Knox and The Blue Serenade Orchestra" and the main instrumentalist in the "Nitty Gritty Praise Band." I've also helped out a few guys here and there with stuff, but I wouldn't say that I was an official member....
As for bands I'd like to be in, I don't know... A weird one.... Kind of like a combination of Black Flag, Captain Beefheart, Bob Wills, Django Reinhardt and Simon & Garfunkel...
Or play with Man Man.... That would be awesome... |

| 1. Mosaic Gold Quintet - 2 trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone, Me on Tuba.
2. Willow Creek Community Orchestra - me on Tuba, some percussion, one kazoo solo.
3. Cry of Stones - Drums, Guitar, me on bass & some vocals.
... and if Newsboys, Rush of Fools or Apologetix ever wants to lower their average, I'd be glad to play bass for em...

Here's a thread to list all bands that you've been in, describe each one's musical style, and tell what each member did in them... | Srsly? OK. But you asked for it. I won't put what everyone else did, basically mostly these were 4 pieces with 2 guitars and drums, with a few exceptions.
Chronologically:
The Atomics - guitar, vocals (1980-83) silly party covers rock band
Band of Fools - guitar, vocals (1984-86) silly party covers rock band
Special Guest - guitar, vocals (1984) silly party covers rock band
Generics - guitar, vocals (1985) silly party covers rock band
Tycho - bass, vocals, guitar, keyboards (1985-86) originals and covers in a synthpop vein
Grandfathers of Punk - bass, vocals (1986) alternative covers
Camp 7 - guitar (1989-90), vocals (1989-91), bass (1990-91), keyboards (1990) original rock
Smart Bomb - guitar, vocals (1991-93) originals punky rock and roll
Allen Wrench - bass, vocals (1994-95) post-grunge originals
Crash Pad - guitar, bass, vocals (1996-present) original punk rock and roll
Sick D*ck and the Volkswagens - guitar, vocals (couple months c. 1999) punky rock and roll, mix of covers and originals
Jetsam - Bass, Vocals (2000-2001) original rock (with Doug Jordan, same guy from Camp 7)
Hoyt & the Hotheads - Bass and backing vocals (2002-2003), Guitar and backing vocals (2003-2008), Bass and backing vocals (2008-present) original rootsrock in a Dylan/Petty/Neil Young vein
King Orange - subbed on bass 2 shows 2003 original rock (with same guy from Camp 7)
Bo Diddley Band – pickup bassist one show summer 2006, playing Bo Diddley songs of course
Dynamite Charade – guitar, bass, vocals (2007-present) original rock/power pop (with same guy from Camp 7)
Pedagogy- Bass (2009-present) piano-based mellow/spiritual/Christian rock
I've also played guitar, bass, and more recently mandolin, in church bands for the past dozen years or so.
Fantasies? An easy one would be rhythm guitar/backing vox for the Sex Pistols.
