Wii internet channel becomes free

Nintendo just made the Internet Channel available for free. The browser is built by opera, and actually isn't bad if you use a USB keyboard with it. This is what I am doing right now.

I always thought it'd be cool to have this but never really felt like paying 5 bucks for it. I will fo sho download it when I get the chance.

Yay! Even though I already got it when it was first released for free, they needed to make it free again. Having it cost $5 was just silly.

I downloaded it when it was free and it's been forever since I've actually used it. I just never could get used to it. Having to zoom in was just awkward and it never displayed the large majority of pages correctly. I wouldn't have paid $5 to download it, but now that it's free, I say take advantage of it while you can.

I wonder how much Nintendo has to pay per download.

If you DID pay $5, Nintendo will be allowing you to download an NES game worth 500 wii points for compensation.

Well that's cool. What I was getting at though is do you think Nintendo is having to pay Opera anything in order to subsidize this or is Opera taking a hit just to get their name out there in the browser war?

I too downloaded this back when it was initially a free download. Glad to see they came to their senses and made it free again. I can't even remember the last time I used the channel though, it's currently just collecting dust on an SD card

typing w/o a keyboard is ridiculously hard though....i myself am going to go buy one. at my local (sortve) microcenter thef sell them for like 3 bucks each, but you could probably get a decent one for like 10 bucks

I get to use a Bluetooth keyboard with my PS3. Ha!

Doesn't make up for the lack of Zelda.

EDIT: Apparently Wii uses Bluetooth as well. Durrr.

I just downloaded it last night.
Am kind of unimpressed...Doesn't feel real smooth or anything to me. Seems very...Bulky almost.

I think its cool...but pretty pointless unless you have a keyboard. Regardless, its worth it for being free.

Firefox doesn't cost anything, yet its everywhere. Opera has to get itself out there and people have to use it so they can advertise and make money
