Well for Hamas to accept the holocaust would be an implicit acceptance of Jews as a people group and they are even loathe to do that other than to say they must be removed from what they call Arab land (all of Israel)

These things always confuse me... On what grounds could you possibly deny something like the holocaust? It's like denying the Reagan Presidency...

Does anyone know what these people who deny the holocaust base their belief on? Is there some sort of conspiracy theory out there or something?

Yes, basically. Depending on which strain of holocaust denial you are willing to foul yourself with, the motivation can be a need to whitewash Hitler and the Nazis ("Hitler's not all that bad of a guy, really..."; David Irving is one of these); pure anti-semitism ("Its a Jewish plot to blood libel the Aryans!") or its a political move to justify something else ("The Holocaust didn't happen, so there's no need for the Jews to be given a homeland"). Or a combination of all three.
